MaryGrace is 2 yrs. 4 months old. She is still in a crib...never asked to come out, and she is happy there. Being the youngest of six, I haven't messed with her. WELL, today, at naptime, I put the baby down that I babysit, put her down, and then I go lay down. (the baby sleeps in my room, so I can literally see him if he wakes up!) I must have fallen asleep instantly...or she was REALLY quiet. The next thing I know, I hear her talking, only it is not quite sounding like she is on the baby monitor. So, I get up, and go out my door..and there she sits..in the living room floor with her blanket and pacis, grinning at me. AAAHHHH!!!!! I asked her who got her out of her bed, and she says, "ME!". AAAHHHHH!!!!! She is the first of all of mine to get out on her own. NOW WHAT??? Do I put her back in tonight at bedtime and just hope she stays, is it time for a toddler bed, a big girl bed, what do I do?!?!?! I JUST moved my 3 1/2 year old out of her toddler bed (Daddy broke it!), so this is a complete new one for me. Again, AAAHHH!!!!!!!

Jennifer,

My DD started crawling out of the crib at 18 months. I called her Houdine (sp) baby.
Every nap and every night she would climb out and sleep on the floor. I finally gave up after a few weeks and took the crib down and just made a bed on the floor. Then I got a trailer bed. It was smaller and lower to the floor. She was alright then. NO toddler beds then. You may have to wait till she goes to sleep to lay down or lay down with her on your bed. Oh great mother of 6, you will find a way. Just think about it. You always come up with something. You must, it is your job after all. LOL

I would move her- I would just be scared she might fall trying to get out in the middle of the night and hurt herself. And is she is going to get out on her own anyway, might as well move her now before anything happens . Hopefully nothing bad would... just you never know.

I know it was an AHHHHH moment, but it sounds like she also looked really cute, sitting there all proud of herself. Dang, they grow up SO fast...

Mine never figured out how to climb out either! We moved her to a toddler bed out of need for the crib for ds. We do put up a gate at her door and she hasn't figured out that she can climb over it!

My Dad told me that when I was a baby they put a tent over the crib to keep me from crawling out. I have seen these at Target and they don't look so bad. We would have used this if we had to.

Mine got out really early. So I got a toddler bed and put a baby gate on the door. They sell crib tents online at onestepahead, but don't think it will postpone the inevitable for very long.

ds used to shake his crib like mad he would roll it across a carpeted floor. so we took the wheels off lol. and after he crawled out the first time at about 20 months we moved him to a toddler bed and put a safety railing up since the kid seemd to drift to the edge constantly and fall out of bed. and he was good. personally thingk you shold move her to the toddler bed it is safer and a shorter fall. we put a baby gate up in ds room so that if he woke up during the night he wouldn't be able to wander around the house and possibly get into trouble that way.

My little DD stayed in the crib til she was well over the ageof 2. My older DD was out a month after she turned 2. Neither really escaped though!

Once the little one went to the toddler bed, she still had the crib at my parents. We'd leave the rail down, she'd put herself down for bed if she decided it was bedtime before Grandma! Now she usually called for someone to help her out in the a.m., but she eventually learned to do it. And we just left the rail down. She actually used the crib there til she was 4, and was fine with it.

If nothing else, put her mattress on the floor if you are worried she'll hurt herself. Then decide if it is toddler bed or big girl bed.

Do those crib nets work? Like the kind sold through One Step Ahead?
