Anyone here have a child that just goes insane after eating certain things?

Case in point, apple juice, if my son has apple juice he's a monster hitting, pushing, running over etc. After the last cup of Chocolate milk he was swinging on the ceiling fan in his room. He's been getting worse at preschool as they were getting apple juice every day for snack. He hasn't had it for 2 days and we've had 2 good days in a row, this in encouraging. My husband had behavior issues when he was younger after eating certain things.

How do you deal with rewards at school, I have already asked them to give the snack I provide, he does eat lunch at preschool but I am thinking of packing his lunch, I am not sure how to deal with the dessert factor, as I really do not want him to have most of the stuff they offer for desserts, I know he will be a monster for about 2-3 days after eating most of the stuff.

When my son was younger he went nuts when he had Cheetos or Cheese Puffs. It took us a while to figure it out because we never had them at home - we just thought he was having REALLY bad days once in a while. It was weird though because he was a pretty mellow kid (still is). Then my SIL bought him Cheetos when we are were all out on a hayride and he melted down about 2 hours later - throwing a horrible temper tantrum and actually slapping at us when we tried to calm him down. Then a few weeks later he did it again, but I remembered that there was a party at preschool that day, so I asked the next day what they had at the party - sure enough - Cheese Puffs. We never allowed him to have another cheese puff and he NEVER had an episode again. Seven years later and I am still not ready to take the chance.

My son is exactly like this. I found something wonderful to deal with it. It is the Fiengold diet. You can go to their website for a basic overview of it, but I eventually ordered the book and it was soooo worth it. My son is sensitive to apples, dyes and corn syrup. It took a little while to figure that out through the elimination diet. The Fiengold program even gives you a book with brand names you can find at the store so you don't have to stand there and read every single label. It's not as hard as you might think by reading the list of no no's. It's just a matter of buying pears instead of apples and small switches like that.

I pack my son's lunch most days and provide his snacks. I just had to explain to his teacher that the apples he has been giving as rewards are part of the problem. I will say that on the weekends I do let him have some of the things, but only on Saturday and not a lot. During the school week we stick pretty closely to the program. Basically what I do is cook from scratch. For me it's just easier. My son has gotten very knowledgable about what he can and cannot eat. He doesn't like to feel that way either.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about the program you might have. I can't say enough good about it. Another thing, there are places you can goodies, like candies, that are dye free. With a little research your little guy won't feel deprived at all.
