Does anyone see a problem with getting my 2-yo. son a play kitchen for Christmas? I think it is a wonderful idea and he would love it. He plays with the one at my grandmothers apt and at the doctors office every time we go but my husband says it is a girl toy and he doesn't need it.
I think it would be good for him because daddies cook too and there are men chefs and many men cook. My husband cooks around here a lot and my grandfather has cooked for as long as I can remember.
i don't want to make him into a pansy but at two why can't he just enjoy whats hes doing? He has plenty of time for baseball and cars

I see nothing wrong with it. I believe step 2 has a cute set that isn't very girly at all, its like woodsy browns so that is stays gender neutral. AND if you look at the box, there is a little girl AND a boy playing kitchen!!!

MY ds who is 3.5, loves to play with the Dora kitchen in his 6 year old sister's room. LOL He also likes to dress up in thier dress up clothes, and wear their dress up shoes. Yes it frustrates dh, but believe me; this kid loves trucks and trains, and dinosaurs just as much!! If not MORE.

I don't see a problem with it. Manly men cook too!!! I would only get it for Christmas though if you think it will be a big hit with your son. If not then maybe find one off craigslist for cheaper.

I think it is great, my son loves my daughters kitchen. There are lots of kitchens out there in primany colors and that can be very manly...lol Just go wtih one of those. They had the market sets at Target that where super cute the other day market down to $14.98. Something like that could be an idea too.

My DS will be 2 in November and he plays with DD's kitchen all the time. It is Little Tykes and its not girly at all. He plays with it more than DD.

I think it's fine. I got one for my ds when he was smaller.

We got one for my older DS when he was 2 and he LOVED it! My younger son played with it, too, when he came along. Even after we got rid of the kitchen itself, we kept the food and plates and they still play restaurant with their stuffed animals occasionally (at 7 and 9).

Why would it be a problem? We let our kids play with whatever they wanted and we didn't do the whole 'girl toy' and 'boy toy' thing...I think it's a little sad to limit kids creativity at such a young age. It's not like playing with a 'girl' toy is going to make any little boy into a girl...or girly or anything.

I had the same argument with my husband last year. We ended up getting the Target wooden kitchen and I am very happy we did. It's inexpensive and blue so not overtly "girly." It's a little cheaply made but no big deal for us. They recently redesigned it which means the price has gone up a bit but it does look a little sturdier. I definitely like the redesign better than the one we have.
