My daughter will be 2 next month. She had a sensitive gag reflex up until a few months ago. She could only eat the dissolving Gerber foods, stage 2 foods and crackers. She gagged on everything else. She hasn't gagged/thrown up for about 4 months. However, she will not try much.

I plan to start her on a multivitamin. I'm hoping the pediatrician will have a suggestion for a dissolvable vitamin. I give her motrin or tylenol when I need to but it is a chore to give her anything liquid.

She seems to be growing fine but I worry about her health due to living off crackers!

Does anyone else have experience with this or any suggestions? I keep offering her foods on her tray but she throws them off.

This is what I can get her to eat:

Breakfast:
Dry cereal (cheerios, rice crispies, etc)
Milk

Lunch:
Pretzels
1/2 banana sliced
Yobaby yogurt

Snack:
Goldfish or Graham crackers
Juice

Dinner:
Peanut butter on a spoon (that is the only protein I can get her to eat)
Whole Grain Crackers
Applesauce or Pears
Milk

Snack:
Gerber stars
Applesauce or Pears
Milk

Mine eats almost anything. My son had a gag reflex. Wait, I take that back. She gags on things like flat cheese. But she loves yogurt, string cheese, crackers, mac&cheese, carrots, celery, - she likes broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, celery w/ranch dip. Pizza can be nutritious.

Ok, my dd is 22 mo and ds is almost 3 and 1/2.

Can you cut up lunch meat into small pieces and give her that - I did that with ds.

Both my kids eat sandwiches for lunch - either PBJ or lunchmeat and cheese.

My kids love oatmeal for breakfast- I get instant really cheap or make your own with applesauce and cinnamon. They also love pancakes and I put blueberries or bananas in theirs.

My kids eat tons of crackers - if she wasn't getting so much fruit I'd be more worried.

My kids eat everything that we eat. Unless, I am being selfish with the chocolate. I don't make something special for them anymore. So they eat fish, chinese, pasta w/meat sauce, chicken, hot dogs, smoked sausage. You name it.

Start giving her what you are having and quit going out of your way for her - otherwise she'll be doing that at 8, 12, 15..... If she gets hungry, she'll eat.

I have to agree with this!!! My kids all ate what we ate by the time they were a year old.

My 2.5 year old eats a lot of chicken noodle soup. String cheese, mac & cheese, boiled eggs, lettuce/spinach (with balsamic vinager dressing), raw onions (she'd eat them all day long, if I'd let her), and I supplement with Pediasure.

Right now my 23 month old is in love with tortillas, he would eat them all day long if I let him.

He also loves raisins, cut up grapes, cut up apples and any type of pasta but he refuses to eat any type of chicken.

My two year old loves fruit of almost any kind.
He will also eat the following....
oatmeal
cereal
toast
peanut butter and jelly
grill cheese sandwich
pancakes
eggs
hot dogs (cut up)
lunch meat (cut up)
ravioli or anything with tomato sauce
pizza
carrots (cooked soft)
He will eat most anything we will if it is cut up, but he won't eat too many veggies.

Thanks for your replies!

I'm too accomodating at meal times. My 4 year old was an awesome eater at 2 years old but now refuses vegetables and most fruits.

I had one of those moms who made me sit at the table with cold mixed vegetables. It really didn't teach me anything except how to be clever in getting rid of them or chugging them with milk. I guess that is why I'm too easy with them.

Sometimes I got my little one to eat something I wanted her to try by just sitting there on the couch and eating it myself. So she is thinking it must be something good if she hasn't offered me any. Another thing I have tried is if she wouldn't eat something(that I knew she would like if she would just try it) was "well I guess I will eat it then". She would say "no, I will". I know it is best not to have to play games to get them to eat. But sometimes you get desperate.
Another thing that got veggies into my children was to let them eat the mixed veggies frozen. My girls all the way up to 10 years old begged me to just let them eat them frozen before I cooked them. So that is how they got there veggies before dinner. My 3 year old now loves to eat them like that, especially the peas. My 11 year old sometimes still takes a few while her sister is eating them.

Crazy kids. My nephew eats A LOT some days and I swear some days he eats nothing. He will always eat pretzels, cheese, and gold fish. We give him what we are having for dinner and he usually just plays with it. He will eat pasta and noodle soup but, only if we are having it too. Sometimes I worry he is not eating enough but, my sis who is a doctor says he will not let himself starve and the doctor says he is growing great so not to worry!
