I have a 4 1/2 year old DS, who weighs about 30-33 lbs.

Well, for eight days I couldn't breathe and I couldn't stop coughing or sneezing. My body ached, I was fatigued and I have an enormous continous headache. (I TOOK NO MED) I am anti-med sorry (I'm also preg, so I didn't want to take anything).

OH BY THE WAY, MY SON IS RARELY SICK. I THINK ONCE EVERY WINTER SEASON.

My DS got sick and he is experiencing what I had, so what is it. Tonight is the second night but worse than last night. So I put vicks on feet (with double socks on just in case one falls off). Raised his mattress. Gave him the 25 lbs weight dosage for Tylenol (CHILDREN'S).

Do you have any advice or most importantly home remedies to help me help him feel better?

All Advice Welcome

TIA

Sorry your son is so sick! I have found a wonderful website with natural home remedies that I have been using for about a year. This is particularly helpful if you don't want to take over the counter meds. It's E A R T H . C L I N I C. (I don't know how to do the link.) Cool mist humidifiers help tremendously with these symptoms as well (I add some hydrogen peroxide). Anyway, check it out, it's fascinating and you may just find something that will help!

My son is the same age and has the same symptoms. His fever is low, has headache, cough, etc. I found that Motrin was working better for the body aches than Tylenol. It really perked him up during the day. Other than rest, hot fluids and meds if needed I cannot think of anything else to do for him. I think my son has the flu.

Best wishes!

Sorry your DS is not feeling well...

I agree that ibuprofen works better than tylenol...if you're not familiar with it, call your ped for dosage information. You don't have to give meds if you don't want to (obviously) but they will make him feel better, so it's just up to you. What exactly are his symptoms that you're trying to relieve?

My girls are sick again. I've been giving them motrin and Benadryl D at night. The Benadryl has stopped that nagging constant runny nose or post nasal drip. I also run the humidifier and use vicks.

please check your sons throat and make sure its not totally inflamed and the tonsils are not enlarged my 3 year old ds was sick for over a week and i thought it was a cold and he was just miserable well he had severe tonsitlitis and needed antibiotics and ended up in the hospital.. if it continues you really should seek medical treatment if it continues i don't like to use meds either but sometimes ya just have to.

Today is Thursday and timing is everything. Three days of being sick isn't earth shattering and most doctors would like a parent to wait before becoming more concerned. However, it is close to the weekend. I'd call my son's doctor today just to tell them what is happening and ask what they advise. They might want him to come in today or tomorrow to get a prescription for something that can help with the breathing and congestion. Or they may be more than willing to have you call the on-call doc over the weekend if things get worse. In our case, DD's doctor is associated with a clinic that is open even on Sunday so her getting sick over the weekend isn't such a big deal for us. Either way, just touching base with the child's doctor can't hurt.

Either way, IF he suddenly becomes lethargic, take him to the ER. As long as he is up enough to be achy, complaining sick he is relatively okay. A child who is too tired to even complain is very, very ill.
