When it rains it pours! lol I have never been to so many Dr's appts in my life...

Anyway, dd who is 3, has been running a fever since Wed. Pretty high (103), and other than throwing up twice and a bit of tummy upset, she has no other symptoms. So I took her in today and they thought, well UTI, so they check it and she has blood in her urine, more than a trace they said. So off to the big lab for cultures. Any ideas on this?

Thanks for any input!

Sounds like she could have a bladder infection. Did the doctor say anything to you about what could be causing the blood in the urine? When do you get the labs back? Did they start her on any meds or anything in the meantime?

no meds in the meantime.... crazy to me, especially since her fever is high and been since Wed.

She did state that it may be a UTI. She was not my dd's normal ped as it was Sat, and I did not really like her.

The culture will be back on Mon afternoon.

I don't know what else would cause it, and I am hoping it is just a UTI and nothing more....

OMG. They should have given her something to numb the area at least!- there are over the counter ones (that turn the pee orange). Maybe you can call the pharmacist and see what kind of dosage can be safely given to your baby. I think I would have asked for antibios, not wanting to wait all weekend. Ouch. Rather than bladder infection, I'm thinking Urinary Tract Infection, which is more common, but easily cured with antibios. Maybe you can call the Dr. after office # and see if they can call some in, or something to help with the pain over the weekend. My goodness.

she's cranky lol would be though

She's still about 102, I am going to see how she does the next 2 hours or so, then if she is not doing any better I will take her to peds after hours

My dh was with me and he did ask for antibiotics, she did not feel that they were right...

That's awful! Does it hurt when she pees? Not to sound crude. Try giving her some cranberry juice. I know there are pros and cons on it but it does help me and it won't hurt her.

I'm so sorry! I swear this stuff always happens on the weekends.

With a fever and blood in her urine it does sound like a bladder infection. I'm surprised they didn't put her on some broad spectrum antibiotic just to try it in case. I hope she feels better soon. Poor little thing. I'm sure she's miserable.

And you are right mel, this always happens on the weekends.

I am suprised as well about the broad spectrum antibiotic...
