I LOVE American Girl and much to my fiances dismay plan on going again next month. My youngest who is only 8months old may get a Bitty Baby on her b-day but it will be put on a shelf until she is old enough to play with her.

If you have a location near by I would definetly say its a must to visit with your daughter. Everytime we have went its packed w/Mommy Daughter combos.

My daughter and I just came from seeing the Kit Kitridge movie where she had taken her our generation doll. She knows it is this type of doll and not the "real thing". She has 2 of these dolls and loves them both. I asked her if the hair thing bothers her and she had this to say...I think it's good. (the hair) And it's not about the hair. I just play with my doll how she is.

That is great that she appreciates her doll and doesn't need a brand name to go along with it.

The doll I bought has long brown hair, I put it in pigtails and braided it. It is fine but my girls don't play with it so it is hard to tell. She asked for an American Girl doll but abandoned it like the runt of the litter when she opened gifts. Her birthday was in March. I put the doll away and have gotten it out a few times, she still isn't interested. I will keep if for awhile in case she changes her mind.

I just bought my sdd one this week at Target and the beauty shop chair. I had got a doll at a garage sale for $1 and it looks so real like the AG ones , not sure where it came from , it says Tolly tots on the back. But this week at the hospital the big boys broke its leg and its one that don't just pop back inside. She was so disappointed I just went and got her one at Target while I was there. She loves it!

Just an FYI...dolls with plastic hair need to have thier hair brushed with a wire brush. If you use a brush with plastic/fiberous bristles it will cause the dolls hair to split & "frizz", making it look ratty. That was a tip given to us by the "hairstylist" at AG. We bought one of thier wire combs & it really has kept her AG dolls hair nice.

Actually AGP doll salons will do non-American Girls dolls' hair.
The customer has to sign a disclaimer, and the 'stylist' will only do a very basic style like two pigtails or one ponytail.
