Has anyone bought one of these dolls for your child? We received an American Girl catalog a few weeks ago and my daughter asked for one. They are SO expensive and I'm not sure if she will actually play with it a lot. I saw the Our Generation dolls at Target and purchased one for my daughter w/a pajama set. I'm saving it for her birthday next month. I realize it won't be the same quality. Does anyone have a review for the doll? I looked online and couldn't find any reviews. Thanks in advance

I don't have any experience with them but I have heard the hair is terrible, making the doll worthless pretty quick. My daughter does have an American Girl doll and doesn't play it with it a ton, but then she does she likes doing her hair.

I'm posting this for anyone else that might want some information on these dolls. I found another recent thread about the dolls. American Girl ?

My plan is to give her the Our Generation doll. If she plays with her and I think she might want an American Girl doll then she'll get one for Christmas. I liked the selection of accessories Target had to offer.

I bought the 'other' doll for my oldest. She played with her all the time, brushed her hair ect. And now she has dreadlocks. She was so dissapointed.

So a week before Christmas sitting on Santas lap she asked for an american girl doll (I had already bought it off ebay for a lot less than retail). She told Santa that was the ONE thing she wanted.

We now take the AG everywhere and the 'other' doll sits in a chair in her room.

Personally I wish I would have just bought the AG first, saved the $30 I spent on the 'other' and had one very loved doll.

That is a very good point. I don't want to be wasteful. I would have to pay cash (not debit card) for it and hide the receipt. There is no way my husband will agree to spending that much for the doll!

I love American Girl although I know the prices are HIGH!! I bought my oldest one for Xmas when she was 4 1/2 yrs old and she LOVED her, I made sure she knew she was a very special doll that had to be taken care of and played with and loved but she could not drag her around and throw her on the ground. For a 4yr old she was GREAT with her. My 3yr old wanted one so bad that I bought one for her with her b-day money her grandparents sent her. The dolls are now a little over a year old and still cherished. They have been to American Girl in Chicago 3 times now and love taking their dolls but understand that they are special dolls. Now on the Our Generation dolls I purchased one for my daughters best friend who really wanted one, the hair was really crappy, and we took her to American Girl and they do not do non american girl dolls hair. I do buy their clothes when they are on sale and have purchased other Our Generation accessories but I really was not impressed with the doll itself. The quality of the dolls are different but you get what you pay for. That said though if your not sure she would like the doll I would get the Our Generation doll to see if she likes her. And check E-Bay for American Girl dolls sometimes you can get great deals there
Ill check to see if I have pics of the dolls.
