Having a routine is wonderful. You know what to expect and feel in control. My girls do very well with their routine. They get ready for school, bed, etc.. wonderfully. However, my 2 year old is the routine police. She will not eat if I'm not home. She will scream if someone else tries to get her dressed. She only has certain foods, clothing and shoes on her approved list. She still drinks a night bottle. She WILL NOT sleep in her twin bed (I have a twin bed and crib in her room.. trying to make the switch with no luck. We've decided to pick our battles on this one). She has to have everything the same or she has a meltdown. It isn't like a tantrum, it is like a screaming in horror because she is scared thing.. it is different.
My oldest has been raised in the same manner and has no problems. She loves something different. She gave up her bottle with no problem. She started sleeping in a twin bed at 17 months (she had a sister on the way). She has always been a champion of change.
Do you have a little routine police person in your house?
The only reason this presents a problem is because it is difficult for me to leave the house for any length of time. My MIL doesn't like to babysit because of the routine police. She tells me my daughter is spoiled. Oh well!
