or wait until my son turns 2? My ds is now 19mth old, and is starting to tell me after he has already gone poop. Very cute by the way, he backs his butt up to me so I can look and then says "Mama I poop". Anyways, he is at daycare Mon-Fri, and they will not start working w/him until he transfers to the 2 year old room. The 18-24 mth room does not have a bathroom, and the teacher can't just get up and walk out if a kid says they have to go. So, do I start trying now even though they can't work w/him, or do I go ahead and just wait until closer time to the 2 yr old room switch? It just seems to me that it would be really confusing for him to use a potty at home, but diapers at daycare.

You have a bit to go before you get him out of diapers completely. Start to have him tell you when he needs to go and you can take off his diaper for him. Also start to let him sit on the potty at regular times when he is home with you, such as when he first gets up from bed, right before he goes to bed, when he brushes his teeth and when he is done eating. By the time good weather arrives, you'll let him run around outside without a diaper on.

Sounds like your little guy is giving you the signs which is fantastic but don't rush it as it can back fire. My son was two and a half before we started. After each poopy or peepee experience we would go sit on the potty, just to assosciate the two. Read a book explaining the idea of the potty while he's there. Eventually when he's ready he may surprise you by telling when he needs to go before filling up the diaper, run to the potty and give it a try. Make it fun and reward him whether he goes or not just to encourage the fact he told you. Stickers work great!

Before you know it they'll be potty trained. Try "big boy" pull ups in a couple of months after he's grasped the idea of what the potty is and what it's used for. Then progress from there.
We did it that way and my son was fully potty trained in three months. Sure accidents happen but as long as you don't make a big deal out of it, you'll be golden. Others that I know that pushed it, paid for it and took four times as long.

Good luck.
