How old was your baby when they got their first haircut? Did you cut it, take them to your hair dresser, or take them to a kiddy type of hair salon?

DD is 16 months and she is really starting to get hair. I want to grow it out a little so I can do some fun things with it and she looks a little more girly. But I am debating when I should get it cut and where.

It all depends on the child and how long it is.

Tip: when you are talking to your child don't say hair cut because they hear the word cut and think it's going to hurt. Say hair trim or hair style.

DD's first haircut was a 'trim' when she was in the bathtub and I did it myself. I don't think DD has ever had her hair cut by anyone but me.

With ds, I think he was close to 3 before his first haircut. I wouldn't trust myself to ever do it, so we always used professionals. My steady hairdresser did his first ones, as he knew her and knew I trusted her. After I had to leave her, because she just was too far away, I started taking him to Cool Cuts. He had sensory issues, and it was bad...until he started getting into Pokemon. After that, they stuck a Pokemon video in and he was too distracted to be scared.

Diva is 2 1/2, and her hair is halfway down her back. It's beautiful. It falls straight, then almost at the shoulders and down, it curls. In many places it naturally goes in ringlets. I want her hair! I do cut her bangs on my own, with mixed results. But she hasn't had a haircut yet. At that point, she'll see a pro.

my son was a few weeks past his first birthday and we went to a kiddie place. they were so understanding and nice to him. Plus they made a really big deal about it, will a picture and a lock of hair in a little book. well worth 15 bucks.

Both my boys went to the same person who cuts my hair (at the same time as one of my appointments). My older son was about 9 months and my younger one was about 5 months (he had A LOT of hair). She charged like $5 for the first few since not much was involved. I also got a cute little certificate that came with a small ziploc bag (to keep a lock of their hair in).

Our daughter has never had her hair cut. Not even a clipping for her baby book. It's almost down to her butt now. Our son is almost 4 months old and he's already needing a cut. His hair is red and he's starting to look like Conan O'Brian. Seriously. It's disturbing.

DS was a year old when we took him for his first haircut. We went to a kiddie place. Expensive but worth it. They took his picture and gave him a certificate with a lock of hair. We still take him there. He has some sensory issues with clippers and they are wonderful with him, so it's well worth the money for me.
