Can you claim mileage for preschool? I know I can claim her tuition, but just wondering about this??!!

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the mileage but it is my understanding that you can only claim preschool if you are working because then it's like daycare. That doesn't seem fair but then again taxes never seem fair

I didn't think you could claim preschool, so that is news to me. I would suggest talking to your tax advisor. They will know.

I seem to remember claiming milage for preschool for my son. He was in a special preschool recommended by early intervention so I am not sure if that made a difference or not.

Thanks!

I'll just have to check it out with our tax lady. I couldn't find anything on the irs web page.

The only reason I can claim her tuition is because they have a daycare ID...

I don't see why preschool or the mileage to/from preschool should be tax-deductible.

I am not sure how it can be written off unless it is used as a daycare. It would not fall under education expenses because it is not required or necessary per say. My sister would like to write off her children's private school tuition but that is not allowed either. An age old debate!

I've been searching the internet on the topic and so far all I can find is that it is tax-deductible if it is being used also as daycare if both parents work. So, if one parent stays home, then it is not tax-deductible.
