Good for you. That is terrible. Y'know, even if it wasn't just us that wanted to protect them from seeing that stuff, most kids just think their parents having sex is gross and they just don't want to picture it. In your shoes, I'd also write the publisher with my outrage. I find sneakiness like that every so often, and have even taken a few examples to Barnes and Noble's managers when I buy a book that has inappropriate content. I've asked them to move a few books out of the little children's area. One is where someone's head gets cut off and get carried around. And have you looked at the Lemony Snickets series? OMG..totally inappropriate for anyone under 13. I won't even read my kids the original Grimms Fairy Tales. And even Snow White...Snow White! The original is even more graphic, but even the Disney addition has the queen ordering the Huntsman to kill her and bring back her heart in a box. So, yes, this is in the Disney book, he kills a wild boar and presents its heart in a box. Talk about giving a kid nightmares. Early, early desensitization. It's our job as parents to do exactly what you did..preview it and speak out. My son sees no DVD without my viewing it ahead of time or with him, depending. Even on the cartoon shows they throw inappropriate things in. Even Buster, on PBS, has either gay characters or they talk about it...not that there's anything wrong with that , but we're not ready to present our little kids with it at this time, just like we're not discussing sex yet. That should be OUR choice, not the media sneaking in stuff when they think we're not watching. Especially when they've established our trust, like that series. GRrr.
