DS has the "Royal Potty." It plays a fanfare when a deposit is made.

Neither one of my kids liked the little potty chairs. They just wanted the big potty. With my first, I bought one of those seat things that fit on top of the potty so that it makes the opening smaller. He used it for about a week! With my second, we didn't even bother. I just pulled up a little stool for him and he climbs right up there. He loves to flush! Just something to think about....

My advice is to have DS help you pick it out. Some kids are really picky about the potty they use. I ended up buying two because DD simply didn't like the first one I got. I think it didn't feel stable when she sat on it and that bugged her.

In addition to the 'potty chair' we also got those extra ring seats for times when we were travelling or visiting. It was no big deal to hold DD on the edge of a public bathroom - I didn't carry the extra seat with me everywhere (!) - but when she needed to poo during a longer trip, the extra seat really came in handy.

She has a smaller seat on the bathroom she primarily uses that is permanently installed. It lifts up when an adult wants to use that toidy. I was going to take it off because DD is 6-yrs old now, but her bum is so darn tiny, it is something she still uses, especially if she needs to sit there a little longer.

Step-stools are a must, as well. I swear we must own half a dozen. I ended up buying a folding one to take with us on trips.

My advice would be to use a stool & soft potty seat that goes on the regular potty.

My older two loved the potty we have - it is simple, doesn't do anything, it's just a smaller version of a toilet. The top does come off to fit onto the big potty for when they're ready for that move. My third, however, doesn't want to use that potty and prefers to use the soft rings that we also have for the big toilet.

I agree, stools are a must as we have one in each bathroom.

We bought the white Baby Bjorn potty chair - it is plain with no frills or "extras". Super easy to clean. We fancied it up with some Thomas stickers from Michael's craft store (just wipe down the chair with rubbing alcohol so that the stickers stay on better when you put them on.)

I like the Baby bjorn one, it is very plain, no frills. My son likes it and i like how easy it is to clean. I put the whole thing in the dishwasher once a week. Also, we bought a step stool and and a potty seat that sits on the toilet seat (elmo for both) he loves them too!.

I bought a no-frills potty chair and DS absolutely HATED the thing! Refused to touch it, sit on it, anything.. He wanted to go on the big boy potty just like Daddy did. We tried a potty stool, but it confused him. You should see how he climbs onto the potty, spins himself around and sits down.. he's like a monkey! (I always make sure to keep the potty scrubbed and cloroxed and make him scrub his hands after..)

I like the Flip-n-flush I got off of Ebay. It attaches right to the adult potty and lifts up for adults to use.

DH & I were in Lowes tonight and hs saw that Kohler makes a toilet seat with a kids seat in it. It works like the flip n flush, but it looks nicer. If I had to start from scratch I would buy the Kohler one.

KOHLER: K-4732: Transitions™ Quiet-Close™ toilet seat: Toilet Seats: Bathroom

Here is a link for one of the ones that attaches to the adult potty:

Also, get the little fold up seat for when you are out. It is nice becasue you don't have to worry about covering the public toilet seat and it makes it more comfortable. It folds up small enought to fit in one of those smaller diaper bags. Here is a pic of that as well:
