My ds is 22months old and a couple of weeks ago woke up and decided he no longer wanted diapers and started using the potty all on his own. We were so excited and we always do a potty dance when he finishes. He is even staying dry a lot of the time at night, he usually wakes me up once between 4-6am to go potty. I am VERY proud of him, and happy that he decided that now was a good time. What is driving me crazy is I feel that I am living in the bathroom. I feel bad for my 4 y/o dd because even if we are in the middle of something and her brother say he has to go I have to drop whatever we are doing to assist him. I am going through clorox wipes like they are going out of style (can't seem to teach him to point it down), plus if he does a #2 it is a huge production of him going a little then he won't sit back down till I clean out his little potty then he goes some more and I clean and we do this over and over. I can spend over 20 minutes cleaning and recleaning till he is finished. He has accidents if I remind him to go because then he will refuse, it has to be his idea. He is very strong willed. I am so sorry to whine but, I am tired of sitting in the bathroom all day.

Ditto on the seat for the regular potty. Put a step stool in there also and pretty soon, he'll be going all by himself. We got one called a FLIP N FLUSH. The only place I found them was on Ebay, but they are awesome! They attach to the toitlet and can be flipped up for adults to use, much nicer than the ones that just sit on the top.

Ditto...i never used a potty chair, it just seemed like much more work.... I always let me kids put a sticker on the potty when they went to...they loved it, and i just bought a new lid for $5 at Menards when we were done.

We are working on potty training too, I just posted about the same time -LOL. I also recommend the potty seat that sits on top of the regular seat so there is no extra cleaning involved. My kids like to flush too.

It will slow down - it won't be so new and he will not go as frequently. Maybe try a sticker chart for every time he can go by himself without any help. Before you know it, he will be wiping his own tush and closing you out.

Hang in there!

Thanks for the replies. We actually started out on the big potty with just the seat on top, and he loved it. The catch was I had to help him up on it, even with the step stool. My DS is a very short and big bellied baby. He quickly decided he would rather use the little one because he could get on it and off without any help. So now he refuses if I put the seat on the big potty. Maybe I need to find a better step stool? I think I may just have to make the little potty disapear then he will have to use the big potty (he does when we are out and about). The cheerio thing sounds great but he still has such a big belly he can't see down there and to even reach down there take a great deal of effort while he is standing so for him to aim at something is a real challenge. I think I will try it, he may surprise me and have great aim when he wants to :D . I am going to check out ebay for one of those flip up seats. One of my biggest things is if i do put the seat on the big potty, I have to take it off for my 4 y/o to go, and then back on when she is finished. It would be nice if all she had to do was flip it up. Thanks everyone....I was having a mental moment the other day and it sure is nice to share with others who understand.
