Now, you're probably thinking my son is constipated with that title..no. Here's the thing... and I am in dire need of your help ladies...!

OK, my son will be 2 in July... every time he poops, while you are waiting for him to finish and change the diaper, not expecting anything... he gets in the diaper and puts his hands in all the poop and smears it all over him and the house.. his toys, tv.. everything. NASTY.

How do I make this stop?! I have tried potty training, tried spanking him, smacking his hands, time out, taking away tv, etc for a day.. I don't know what else to do... I need this to stop.. It's driving me bonkers.

Please help!!!!

Thanks.

Dress him in clothes he can't get into. Onesies (they make them in big sizes and Childrens Place makes t shirt ones that snap at the crotch all the way up to 4T), overalls, one piece pajamas, etc.

I don't think the punishments you have tried are age appropriate, IMO. He is still just a baby. Your mention of "whipping him" disturbs me. Yikes! He is obviously enjoying the rise he is getting out of you when he does this. Stay calm and in control and I think you will have better results. Good luck!

Try to remember he's only 1! Yes, he might be almost 2, but when you are angry try to chant in your head- he's only 1, he's only 1, continue with it until you've calmed down. All those punishments aren't going to work b/c he's just too little! Especially whipping and hitting his hands-he's not going to understand at all!

I agree with maggie, dress him in things he can't get into. That is the quickest and easiest answer. Otherwise, you need to be more vigilant when you know he's going poop, stay next to him until he's done and change him right away. I know it's hard to be there 24/7, but at 1 he shouldn't have the opportunity to have time to smear poop all over everything!

I know it sound like we're being harsh but I also agree that those punishments are way too much for his age. Even my 2 1/2 year old wouldn't respond to those type punishments because he's just too young for them.

I agree to try putting your DS in clothes that he can't easily get to his diaper while wearing. Onesies are great. Good luck because cleaning up poop from everywhere doesn't sound like a very fun thing to do.

Thanks I appreciate your input... I know that he is little and he is going to do things, but it is driving me nutty. I don't whip him.. he has had a few taps on the butt and had his hands tapped with a "no no", but I don't hurt him... I think you misunderstood... that didn't come out right.

Yeah...I would not punish him.

Try duct taping the diaper on...they have trouble getting that off. LOL

Don't put him in pants or shorts that are pull down cause my son can pull them down and take them off and he takes his diapers off all the time when he doesnt have something preventing it. Also when you are changing him try and keep his hands busy so he doesnt reach down and mess with it then

Oh gosh! We had to do that with our second oldest. Not because she was spreading poop everywhere but simply because she loved taking it off. Putting it on backwards helped for awhile but eventually she figured that out so out came the duct tape!
