My oldest son is 4 (almost 5) and wants to play hockey like his daddy! I've already found out that they start with skating lessons. The lady that teaches the lessons has a son who plays hockey with my dh and she was at their last game so I talked to her about it a bit. She said if he's really excited about hockey he can wear hockey gloves & a helmet to the lessons, but no stick.

My boys will be turning 5, 3 & 1 in a couple of months and since my parents always spend $50 per child I thought maybe I'd let them get the older two some hockey gear. They'd both LOVE sticks, gloves, helmets & skates!!! I've read that the helmets & skates are hard to fit and generally need to be tried on first so I figured maybe DH & I could get these for them when they start lessons, but as for the sticks & gloves... where's the best place to get them? We do have a hockey store here at the rink, should I stick to buying them local or are there any good online sites where you can find these things cheaper???

TIA!!!

Our local hockey association has a swap every year right before the start of the season. You bring in your used gear and buy used gear, and you keep whatever you make.

Try Play It Again Sports or a sporting consignment store.

I was going to say Play it Again Sports. Dh gets stuff from Hockey Equipment & Gear | Hockey Sticks & Skates | Ice Hockey Helmets & Gloves | HockeyMonkey.com and Pure Hockey, but I think they(pure hockey) are only local here. We get Baur( I think) helmets that are all adjustable, but had to move up in size for my 9 yr old. The first time we had to get hockey equipment, the guy at PIAS was really helpful with sizing.
