YES!! I encourage this sort of bonding and learning. I let my children begin learning in the kitchen as young as 12 months. From playing in the kitchen sink water while I washed dishes and let them "rinse"..hehe..
Now my 3yr old puts away the silverware and cups. My 5yr old will put away dishes as well. Both of them bake with me. From cracking eggs to measuring ingred. and allowing mama to turn on the mixer and watch it go 'round' and 'round'. I let them dip the spoon in water and drop a spoonful of biscuit or cookie mix on the cookie sheet.
I'm very HANDS on with my children in the kitchen. This winter our family gift from "santa" is a family set of matching aprons. hehe! My dh loves to work in the kitchen too.
My kids help set the table, scrape off their own plates (been doing that since they were 18 months) and they put their dishes in the sink.
I enjoy this with my family and it's something I RARELY got as a child.
