I have just my daughter a sand pit for her birthday - how am I going to keep the sand clean from worms and thing like that.
It already has a cover so the cats and dogs can not get to it.

What do you mean by "sand pit"? Is it just a hole in the ground with no barrier between the dirt and the sand you placed in the hole?

We had a wooden sand box, with a lid, and didn't have any problems with any bugs. I would 'sift' the sand thru a seive in the fall before I closed it up for the wintertime to get out sticks, rocks, army men...LOL.

i don't understand what you mean by a sand pit either.. if you just made a sandbox with a frame then you probably should have put a sandbox barrier down(they sell at home improvement stores) it keeps weeds and bugs out.. thats what we did with ours then we made a cover on it. i also made sure i bug sprayed in the spring on the ground around it that has helped we rarely have a bug in ours.. we also every spring take off the top layer of sand and put new on even with keeping it covered when not in use leaves and twigs get put in there by my boys.

We have a sand pit, I guess you could call it. My dh took out a bunch of bricks out of our back patio and dug a little dirt out of it and put in sand. We keep a tarp on it. So far we haven't had problems with worms and the boys have dug pretty deep into it. It's an outdoor toy, bugs and worms come with the territory, so I don't worry too much about it.

This Seems to Be a Commen Complaint!!

Sure our Sandbox stays Clean as can Be IF the Lid Remains on and In Tact.

We had a Storm once that Ripped a Hole in our Plastic Cover.
Needless to Say in just a Few Days Time , It Got Pretty Gross.

we have a turtle sand box, with lid, and it stays clean, until dd dumps water in it and leaves the lid off.

It's outside...wejust change the sand often

We live in the country, dirt is easily found so my kids have a natural sand box! It comes with all the essentials - worms, twigs, bugs, etc. They love digging in the dirt - dry or wet - and have lots of fun doing it.

If you have an actual sand box, just put a cover on it and that should help protect it from the bugs.

The sandpit is two plastic clamshells that fit on top of each other, so basically like a small blow up swimming pool made out of hard plastic, with a similar on one top of it so that it is covered. It sits on the enclosed patio outside

We have a sand table with a lid and I change the sand a few times a year, never had any problems but we do keep the lid on all year long.

I would think you can just keep the lid on, clear it out with a little rake if needed and change the sand every now and then and you will be fine.
