My son is 2 1/2 I want to start potty training him but I am not sure if he is ready. yesterday he would sit on the potty when I would ask him and he went twice. I have pull ups on him today and a few times he has told me when he was going but would not do it to sit on the potty. I have tried the reward system with sticker charts and candy. He is a very smart boy and I know that he understand this. I have also heard that pull ups are not good to train in b/c it feels like a diaper. I tired training underware yesterday but I can not deal with him peeing on the floor. Anyone have any suggestions as to what is the best way and if he is ready.

How long is he going without wetting a diaper? That is the best way to tell if he is ready. If he goe a long time in between changes, give it a try. If you want to try to get him to stand up to go, make it a game and throw some cheerios in the bowl, he has to aim and get them, my DS loved that one! Also if he is going on the big potty, get him a seat, my DS was terrified of falling in,but wouldn't use a potty chair, so we got him a seat that fity on the reg. toilet. He wasn't trained til he was 3 though...all kids are different (DD was 2.5), he just wasn't ready til then. Good luck!

I could tell my son was ready when he started waking up with a dry diaper. He was 2 yrs 9 months old. We go cold turkey - straight into underwear and NO pull-ups (in my opinion they are a huge money waster and marketing gimmick). He was trained within a week.

Except for use in public places where you are worried about an accident or for night time if you are completely saying bye bye to diapers, I agree that pull ups are a waste of money. My kids used them like diapers. We did the "nakned" training. All six of my kids and both of my nieces were trained in about two days just by letting them run around in a top only...bare bottom hanging out. They didn't like pee running down their legs, so they waited longer...and then REALLY had to go when I put them on the potty. My last two have been longer with night training, but even then, I chose to use a diaper instead of a pullup. Why pay the extra money to have the same thing happen in each?! Good luck. It certainly can't hurt to try.
