Almost 3 wks ago, I took away the bottles from my 2 1/2 year old. She drinks juice & water from her sippy cup but will not drink milk out of ANY cup. I've tried regular cups, sippy cups, straw cups... even the dreaded Nuby sport cup. The only dairy product she eats is yobaby yogurt. I've tried to give her cheese and other dairy products but she will not eat them. Has anyone else experienced this? It bothers me but I am just hoping she will pass this super picky stage.

have you tried putting chocolate in it?? i know its not ideal but maybe would get her started drinking it.. also have you tried only offering milk no juice maybe a little water but if she is thirsty enough she will drink it..

also children your daughters age only need 12 oz of actual milk a day that is not really alot. so maybe offer that first and once she has drank that she then can have juice or water...

my youngest dd is 20 months and she only drinks the 12 oz she does not like milk at all her ped said put chocolate in it and it worked and eventually i just reduced the amount of chocolate now there is none..

just some ideas don't worry to much kids are strange like that they go in stages.

I tried chocolate milk, too. She won't touch it. I let my oldest have 2 cups of Horizon organic chocolate milk a day.

I tried for a week to not give her anything until she drank the milk. I ended up giving her juice or water for lunch and dinner.

Thanks for replying. I know it will pass at some point

Maybe she's just picky with her milk. Myself, I only drink 2% and only with ice in it. Just refrigerated is not cold enough for me and tastes icky unless there's ice in it. Maybe that would work. or a different % (if you drink 2%, maybe she'd like 1% or skim, or maybe she thinks it tastes watered down and would like whole?). Also, do you think maybe she's lactose intolerant? Maybe milk and cheese make her belly hurt so she refuses to drink/eat them. the twins I nannied weren't actually lactose intolerant in that they couldn't eat dairy at all, but their systems weren't very tolerant of it, so they could only eat a very very small amount of dairy before they got sick. their mom just monitored what they ate and eventually they got through it and now they do fine with dairy.

good luck!

That is so crazy! I guess I will be letting my little one hang on to the stupid Nuby cups for a while longer. So far I can't get him to drink milk out of anything else. My oldest never would touch milk (or eat cheese or yogurt) so I gave him calcium enriched orange juice. Have you tried that? I also made smoothies for him for breakfast every day for about a year. I would use soy milk with frozen strawberries, bananas, pineapple, peaches - whatever I had on hand. I make them now for my kids with regular milk and they both love them. Just another thought.

She is such a little stinker for trying anything new or different.

Thanks Maggie, I will try the OJ ... it never hurts to try.

I've been tempted to give her the bottle back but I know it isn't the right thing to do.

the oj is a great idea!

she probably just associates milk with her bottle, they are so funny

I am assuming she does not eat brocolli.... that has calcium

I wonder if you could make some sort of "cream cicle" like a popsicle with milk in it, that may work and be good for when it's hot

My 27 month old has been off of the bottle for a week and refuses to drink milk too. My older son went off the bottle at 27 months also and wouldn't drink milk for a couple months and started with chocolate milk and milk from his cereal but still isn't a big milk drinker. We were going through a 1/2 gallon a day and I just dumped out a couple gallons of milk that expired because our milk consumption drastically reduced after the bottle was gone. I just keep offering it and at some point he'll hopefully start drinking milk again.

DON'T give the bottle back!!! As someone who is trying to get her DD off the bottle the thought of succeeding and then going back would be a big no-no. Simply because we are having SUCH a hard time!!! She is 18 months and i've been trying since she turned 1. Obviously going to have to do the cold turkey method eventually, just haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet.

So CONGRATS for getting her off the bottle! I say stick with it, it'll work itself out and you'll look back and be glad that you stayed strong.

Best of luck!!!
