My little girl announced this week that she wanted to stay with Grandma for the night. I know a lot of people do this all the time with their kids - we haven't. In fact the only night that she ever stayed away from both my husband and me was the night my son was born.

I've also posted on her this past winter of what a struggle she had with preschool. She was a September birthday and I enrolled her a year early. I knew my kid was smart enough - she could handle it! Well ... she was smart enough but she just couldn't handle it socially. It ruined her! She just wasn't ready to be away from her mommy and daddy. But now that she is getting a little closer to the age of five -- I see that she is starting to become ready! She even told me the other day that she might want to return to preschool! Anyway, her staying at Grandma's last night and me not driving out to pick her up in the middle of the night was pretty dang cool!

Wow that is awesome. I don't know how my 3.9 year old would do overnight somewhere without me. She has in the past, but her sisters were there too. I am sure she wouldn't do it alone. My other kids, had no problem staying at grandmas. Well, if it were the inlaws, she might cry at first, but Grandma would let her sleep in bed with her. She wouldn't like to stay at my moms house. Not as much to do there. Doesn't matter, my inlaws will probably never ask for my kids to spend the night, there are more special grandchildren in the family.

DD doesn't have any grandparents TO spend the night with. She has a sleepover birthday party coming up. That will be a treat.

My two older ones (DS-7 and DD-almost 4) just did this for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was a success until morning rolled around and they got up WAY early and I don't think that Grandma and Grandpa were prepared for the demand of small children right away in the morning. They were champs about it though!
Thankfully they just live across the street from us, so if we had to go get them in the middle of the night it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Yeah for your dd! Mine normally have a night away by the time they're 3. Of course it's normally with my mom and they have their other brother and sister around. My 4 year old tried it on her own once but I never made it out of the driveway. She isn't use to being the only kid around.

Yay for your dd free night!
My ds (2) has slept over at my parents twice. The first time was for 2 nights because we were out of town, that was a little too long, but he was younger and fared well. A couple of weekends ago he stayed over for one night and had a harder time, was really upset when he woke up from his nap and we weren't there. My parents say we need to leave him for one night with them more so he gets used to it. They are the only people who have ever watched him, so I think it's special for them to have those times together. (and for us to get a break! we don't know what to do with ourselves!)

That is so cool! I'm glad she did well

My oldest stayed with grandma while her sister was being born but that has been it.
