What do I do? Mags is 2 and 1/2. I could have had her potty trained last summer but b/c I was working on Jared I just couldn't do both at the same time.

So this spring I worked with Maggie and she was doing really good. If she wet herself she would tell me. All of a sudden in the last 2 weeks or so - MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS A DAY!!! I am so frustrated. She is no longer allowed on the couch b/c she will sit there and wet herself and not tell me - SOAKING the cushion!!! Twice!!! We were at the inlaws for father's day and she wet herself twice (one WITH poop)!! How embarassing and I felt so bad b/c no one noticed and I have NO CLUE WHERE she went!!! We usually have no accidents when we are out - just at home!

I am so at a loss as to why this is happening. I know that she doesn't like feeling wet/poopy but she isn't always choosing to do anything about it!! I think that some of this may be due to the fact that she just "graduated" to a new room at church. So this could be due to that.

Any suggestions/words of wisdom?

I have heard that change or something happening in a child's life, such as birth of a sibling, loss of a pet ect can cause this. Changing a class I would think could cause this. She is not experiencing any problems with the new class is she. You might ask, but to cover your bases...

Potty training isn't a straight line progression. You can expect set-backs. As a matter of fact, may kids will have wetting accidents into first grade.

She isn't telling you because she is doing it on purpose. Two and three year olds figure out that they are separate from Mommy and Daddy. They start to understand that they have control over their environment. She recently learned that she has control over her bodily functions. She is experimenting with the pooping and peeing wherever and whenever she wants. It makes sense to US to only use the toilet, but a 2-yr old hasn't taken biology yet nor have they ever had to pay for a sofa.

So, just continue to make it extremely inconvenient for her to potty anywhere other than the toilet. For a young child, that usually means they have to miss out on playing or a treat because of the mess that was made. After a while she'll realize that you were right and the toilet is the better place for those bodily functions.

I had a pretty hard time with my last daughter too. She will be 4 next month, and she is finally doing pretty good. I am constantly reminding her to use the bathroom. If she hasn't gone in awhile, but says she doesn't have to go, I tell her to try anyway. I know they want to be in control of it, so I just tell her, no tv, treat, whatever until she sits on the toilet.

My 5 & 4 year olds potty trained with in 6 months of each other and that was before age 3. They were so easy. My 2 1/2 year old has been using the potty once or twice a day for a month or so now. Sometimes I put her in underwear and sometimes in diapers. I'm not going at it full speed. She is still having accidents. If she is in a diaper she just rips it off and gets on the toilet. Just this morning I changed a poopy diaper, put a clean one on and she came downstairs in underwear. She'll get it eventually. I don't trust her to wipe after she does number 2 anyway. I don't always know when she goes to the bathroom. Usually her sisters tell me she's in there. She's so small, it could be a disaster.

I had these types of regression with my oldest. Therefore, I decided to wait until my youngest was 3 years old to start. These things happen. Just try to reinforce what she has learned. I would keep track of when she had went and ask her to try like penelope mentioned.
