What does everyone recommend - a traditional double stroller or a sit and stand stroller? We're going to be getting one or the other and were wondering which is better? Also, are there any brands of each that are better than other brands?

ETA - My oldest is 3 yo.

I had a double stroller that was given to me as a gift when my second son was born and I loved it. When it went caput in October, I bought another double stroller and I TOTALLY regret it now. We used it for about a month before the weather got too cold and now have used it for a couple months since it has warmed up, but at this age, Bob will be 3 in September, he wants to walk every where. For a while I was pushing the double and letting him in if he got tired. I bought a single stroller at a garage sale this weekend for when we walk smaller trips and he can just walk beside me.

I don't know about brands, but I would recommend researching the different reviews online at Amazon, target.com and walmart.com. My first double wasn't made for every day many miles of use. This second one, a side by side by Cisco is pretty good.

Well, I have both and there are pros and cons to each. I can tell you that with a 3 year old you're probably going to be better off with the sit'n'stand - a double is pretty much overkill with an older child.

My double is a Graco DuoGlider LX. I love the large cargo basket, it's really easy to steer, and it folds up pretty well for a double stroller (better than my single or sit'n'stand). A lot of people complain about how heavy the tandem double strollers get (especially when you have two older children in them) but it never really bothered me. It is heavy, but I never had a problem lifting it in and out of my car. Honestly the only reason I stopped using it is because my older son never really rode in it anymore so I was basically pushing a double stroller with only one kid in it.

My sit'n'stand I bought used from a friend. I think the brand is Swan. I love the seating arrangement and so do my kids (they are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2). It's the only stroller I use right now, and that's the reason why. Unfortunately, it's really hard to turn, the cargo basket is small, and I hate the way it folds - it takes up more room in the back of my van than my double would have.

At the end of the day, the sit'n'stand meets my kids needs at the stage they're at now which is why I use it. The double stroller - as much as it was easier for ME to use, just isn't necessary anymore.

Since your oldest is 3, I recommend the sit n stand. I have a hand me down one from my SIL and I use it on the days I babysit, the baby sits in the front and ds (2) either walks beside me or sits or stands on the back. If we are in a situation where he needs to be strapped in (or if he's being a pain), I can strap him into the back and force him to sit. It is front heavy and more difficult to steer, but to me it's worth it to let ds have more choices. It can click in an infant car seat, it makes it more front heavy, but it works fine. He hops on all the time and just holds on when he is tired of walking, he loves it.
I also have a hand me down double graco, but it's more of a pain having to take ds in and out instead of him getting in and out by himself.

I have both the DuoGlider and a sit n' stand. I pretty much hate the sit n' stand. It's an older model but the newer one didn't look much different to me. It's impossible to steer, it doesn't have all the cup holders like the DuoGlider and the cargo basket is way too small. My kids are a little older so they can get out of the DuoGlider just fine so I mainly use that.

I loved my sit and stand when my oldest was 18 months and then I had my son, it has the car seat attachment you can put on the front. I used it again when I had my 3rd, my son was 2. However when he hit 2 he walked everywhere would no longer sit on it and my 3rd dd is the same way-she hasn't sat in a stroller since she turned 2. So this time with number 4 we aren't using a double or a sit and stand (I had sold mine awhile back). Is your 3 yr old still in a stroller? I really don't think you need either one.
I didn't have any problems with the newer model sit and stand LX. It is easier to navigate than the graco doubles, mine had cup holders and a huge basket.

i got the sit n stand to use basically to walk my oldest to school to save on gas my almost 4 year old is a weakling and tires easy so 1 mile is torture to walk him.. it works fine not the best stroller i have owned definately not the worst.. i guess if your oldest is 3 i would not do a double not worth the money because it won't be long and the 3 year old will mainly walk with occasional rides. also if you are done having kids you can sell it on craigs list and recoup some money thats what we plan on doing once ds is in kindergarten in a couple years...
