Do you give your toddlers a mulitvitamin? And if so when did you start? My 18-month old DD is an extremely picky eater and some days hardly eats at all (she is totally healthy and up there on the weight percentile, so thats not an issue), so i am concerned she is not getting all the nutrition she needs. It is a struggle to get her to take the infants liquid vitamins, so my question is, even though she is only 18-months do you think i can start her on the gummy-type vitamins? They say to start at two but i feel that she is developmentally ready. Any feelings on this?

we don't do vitamins for our kids. our ped also does not recommend unless there are issues like malnutrion or allergies to foods that contain stuff they need... if the dr thinks she is fine and she is normal on height and weight charts i would not give them to my child. i have one who is a picky eater and he is perfectly healthy.. as for your child seeming like she is not eating much that is normal kids go thru spurts like that also a serving size for a child that age is only tbsps to 1/4 cup of foods.

What does your ped think? We never did vitamins for our kids and our ped didn't recommend for the reasons the above poster stated.

My daughter take Polivisol drops by Enfamil..She is 15 months old..They work great, They cost $10 at Walgreens and are liquid..Her docotr advise these..She is a healthy eater, but it ensures she is getting all of the nutrients!

my ped said the same as the others, its not recommended bc your body takes in more nutrients through food than it does through vitamins. My son goes through spurts. Sometimes he'll eat like a hog, but most times he throws his food around ( I can't WAIT until this stage is over). He really likes fruits, but hardly eats any veggies. But the ped said that was okay too bc there are just as many vitamins in fruits as there is in veggies.

I had the same issue, wanting to get some extra nutrition into my DS, but again, the ped said he was fine without it for a while.

Good luck!

We just took our ds for his 18 month checkup and the doctor said that we can give him chewable vitamins because he is a picky eater. We bought the flinstone gummy ones and he just sucks it for a second and spits it out... so we will have to keep trying. I asked about the age requirement on the bottle and doc said it was fine.

My DS is allergic to dairy and is 16 months old so we do vitamins. We do the My First Flintstones chewables, not the gummies. He takes them no problem. They are made for 2 and up, but our ped okayed them because DS hates liquid meds. DD takes them too. She is a super picky eater and is on the low end of the recommended weight for her height so we do them as a precaution so that she doesn't have any issues.
