I'm so glad to find that all of you said food! My mil hasn't always gotten why I don't make my kids clear their plates, etc. For me, as long as they eat a decent amount of their meal, what difference does it make if it is a cleared plate. And, if they don't like something, why force them to try it everytime? Yes, the first time, try it, and maybe once in a while after, but to force them to eat so many bites everytime it is served is silly to me. There are things I don't eat because I don't like them, too!!! We also do not fight the clean room battle. As long as it isn't dangerous to walk in, I am okay with it. Their bedrooms are all upstairs, so no one but family sees them anyhow.
That said, I DO fight over them bringing toys downstairs. Since I am easy about the upstairs, I think they need to respect MY clean space downstairs!! I also do not give an inch on safety rules...seatbelts, staying with me in a store, helmets, etc. There is simply no room for battle on these type of issues!
