I had mine done as an infant, so I have no recollection of the event. I'll probably do the same, if I have daughters.

In re: to the earrings falling out, don't they put the screw-on backing earrings when they pierce young children's ears?

I had mine pierced when I was probably around 10 or so. My hairdresser was licensed to do it. She got all ready and said "say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" and she pierced the first one sometime during the phrase. Then she told me to spell it (for the other ear). The redirection worked for me. Nearly 10 years later (after the first ones closed up), I got them repierced at a mall with my girlfriends. The girl got the gun stuck in my earlobe and had to pry it off with scissors. I was about to leave with the thing stuck in my ear I was so terrified (of her with the scissors). Both times, the holes healed over, even years after they were pierced, and earrings started to bother my ears after a while. Maybe I should try the 14k/24k gold thing to see if that works better.

They do put a back on it, but I think that if you are not careful the earrings can fall through the hole....I think

My 13 year old daughters earrings are already falling out. We have given up worrying about it, and bought a bunch of earrings and keep putting them back in when they fall out. I had to poke it through a couple times. I told her I was not paying to have them repeirced.

In our house we have the 5 yr rule.. we also have the rule they can only wear studs, with the safety backs like when you get them pierced. You can buy them at the store or on ebay..

My dd was told that it would hurt, and that she had to take care of them.. I would remind her to turn them and clean them but she did it on her own after a day or two..

Just out of curiosity.... How do they keep "falling out". I was just taking a stab at it when I said that they fall through the hole, meaning whatever earing you have in your ear.,...The main piece...diamond, flower...whatever shape the main, decorative piece is...goes through the hole and falls out the back?? Does that make sense? Is that what happens?
I am just curious, so that I can know what to expect in case it happens to DD.

The earring back keeps coming out. And this is with the starter earings that aren't supposed to fall out. I am not about to keep paying for starter earrings, so she just wears regular ones now. And I am going to buy some extra backs.
