Kaylee's (20 months) eylid started drooping yesterday after we got to the beach. I thought it was just form being tired. This morning it is still droopy, and the lid is a little puffy and pink. This is only on one eye. Her eye itself doesn't appear irritated.

Any ideas?

We are on vacation so we would be at the mercy of whatever urgent care place we went, but I am just curious if anyone had any thoughts. I think if she had sand or sunscreen in her eye, the eye itself would also be red, but it isn't. She isn't rubbing it and it doesn't appear to bother her.

I would probably call into my own pediatrician, even from wherever I was, and see what they suggested...it could be nothing, could be pink eye, could be an allergic reaction to something or a variety of other things kwim?

Sounds like an infection of some kind (pink eye, sty, etc). Even if you went to urgent care they couldn't tell you anything until her symptoms developed and became more clear.

Try a variety of OTC meds like Benedryl (I used to dip the end of DD's pacifier in the liquid Benedryl and that would be all she needed). She's too young for an anti-inflammatory like asprin or ibuprofen. It is up to you to decide if you're comfortable giving her one of those.

Then also try a warm compress to see if that helps. Or try alternating betwee a cold and warm compress.

Hope it doesn't get worse before you get home.

It is actually better today. I am going to keep an eye on it though...
