Background: DS will be five next thursday and for reasons known only to him decided a few weeks ago that monsters were in his closet. So, he has a flat out temper tantrum if we so much as try to put him in his bed. It's not the usual crying, I don't want to go to sleep tantrum. It's an I'm scared to death please God don't leave me type of thing. We've told him that monsters can't live in a room with a five-year-old after exhausting many other options and that the monsters will be moving on his birthday. However, I am getting rather impatient with the sleeping on the couch arrangement. So, any ideas on how to get him in the bed sooner of if he decided the monster's won't move? TIA

Jess

Have you tried the infamous monster spray? Scented water in a spray bottle. He can even keep it by his bedside. If you don't want water, maybe condensed air will do; the kind in a can you use to clean the keyboard. Just relabel. We also let our son sleep with a toy he wanted (it was new, but doesn't have to be) but was not allowed into our bed.

We used monster spray! It really does work. But we also added a stuffed animal, the one we used was a dog, that would scare away any monsters that tried to come in his room.

We've used monster spray and we have "swept" them up in the vaccum. I heard about a book where all you have to do is quack and the monster's will leave b/c they can't stand quacking. Would anyone happen to know of this book? Thanks, Jess

Has he ever watched Monsters Inc. The monsters in there think they will die if kids touch them and end up nice.
