My oldest was 6-1/2 Really it was for her brother that I still carried one for and I stopped when he was 1-1/2 and got a larger purse that would hold his stuff. When he was 2 I went to a small purse because he was potty trained and didn't need anything.

My daughter is 4 too. She still has an ocassional accident, but usually only at home, not when we go out. I still like to have an extra outfit, but I now let her carry a small backpack with the outfit, and any toy or book she might like to bring along. That way it is light, and she can carry it, and most places I can just leave it in the car. I have always carried a good sized purse. I have 4 kids, and there is always something they end up needing. I am trying to downsize my purse now, and just carry a medium sized one.

My youngest is not potty trained so I still carry a small backpack. I will probably be carrying it for awhile.

I keep extra clothes and a jacket for both of the girls in a small tote bag in the car.
