As a gymnastics teacher I do NOT think they are safe to have at home. Plus, if someone gets hurt on an at home tramp, the owners insurance will go way up! I am sure some families are excellent with safety rules and all, but some kids will try to pull a fast one & try a flip when they think they aren't being watched... some kids are just wild & dont think that they could possibly get hurt on a trampoline.
And from a coaches perspective, I have had students try to teach themselves skills they are not ready for on their home trampolines, or they learn a new trick in the gym (i.e. backhandspring or flip) and they try it at home, then the next week they have all sorts of funky bad habbits! I always tell kids not to practice their new skills at home, but some parents will let them try it anyway!
I think any gym coach will agree with me! Unfortunately with all of the safety training we go through, we see only them as a big safety hazzard!
