My daughter turned 16 months old this month. Yesterday she had a doctor's appointment for another shot.
Everytime we've been to the doctor's, and they've actually told us what percentile she's in it was around the 50%. The doctor said last time she was 40-50 percentile.
And apparently now she's only in the 5th percentile? So we have to bring her back in two months to check her weight again.

I'm honestly not sure what to think. I'm worried but, then I'm not.

First: She eats. Oh, trust me. She eats. I've gotten jokes that she eats more than I do. lol. She loves food. (Dh had a good point. She eats a lot, and not crap either. Like fast food and stuff. She does have it, just not on a regular basis)
Second: My husband and I aren't very big people. I'm 5'2", and he's 5'6" All my life I've been technically underweight, but healthy. My siblings are stick people too lol.

The doctor said, there's a good chance out daughter will always been around that percentile just because we're not big people, but he wanted to check anyway.

(Also, last time she was at the doctor's was 12 month check up. And she hasn't lost weight. She just hasn't gained much. And she's tall I guess? If that helps. She's almost as tall as her 22 mo old cousin)

My husband is kinda worried because of the drop from 40-50 down to 5. I am too but, I'm trying not to get myself freaked out.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it but it's good that your Dr wants to keep on top of it. I thought it sounded kind of drastic too going from 50 percentile down to 5 but if you look at this chart it basically shows that her weigtht is just the same as at her 12 month check-up http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhanes/...l/cj41l018.pdf

Our Pediatrician always said it wasn't as big of a deal what percentile they were in (that is just a comparison to other children that age) but more important that their height and weight stayed proportionate to each other. HTH

I was going to say that you are a very small person and I'm guessing your dd will be, too. Maybe she is waiting for a growth spurt! If she eats, I wouldn't be concerned.

Honestly, it is probably nothing to worry about. However, your Dr. is doing the right thing by keeping an eye on it just to make sure.

I don't pay any attention to those charts. Every child is different and as long as they are healthy that's all that matters.

having a dd that has hoverd around the 5th-10th percentile her whole little life i would not worry have her re-checked my ped says as long as there is any growth in head size height or weight they will not worry. our daugther is just tiny for her age she is just now starting to wear some 18 month clothes she has been wearing 12 month clothes for the length for over a year now and can still wear her last winter pjs and still has an infant size 3 foot and she will be 2 at the end of september. as long as she is growing i would not worry but its good your ped wants a re-check..

Heck my oldest never made it on the charts and she was fine! I bet she lost her baby fat and will pretty much stay where she is at now.

This is what our doctor tells us too. We have the opposite situation - ds is in the 105% percentile and always has been - but his weight, height, and head circumference have always been proportionate so that is just the way he is. He is at least a full head taller than the other kids in his preschool class and he looks like a linebacker next to some of those little kids. We get comments from total strangers every day of our lives about how big he is. When he was about your daughter's age the pediatrician made us do some tests (including an ultrasound on his head to make sure there was no water on the brain - I am sure some of you mommysavers remember me posting about that!) just to make sure everything was fine, but that was a year and a half ago and he is just fine (and still big!). I bet your dd will just be a sweet and petite little girl!

I agree with everyone else....don't worry about it. My niece has always hovered around the 5th percentile as well, and is doing just fine.

Our dd was in the 3rd percentile at her nine month appointment. She is a bit behind on her development also, but I attribute that to her size. She is very responsive, just weak.

She is now 11 months old and I think she weighs about 15 pounds. She can still fit in to a lot of 0-3 month cloths, but mostly wears 6 - 9 month cloths. We're just happy that she is healthy.

Our doctor has said the same thing, as long as they are proportional, nothing to worry about. He predicted that in high school she will be about 4'11" and 90 pounds.

I wouldn't worry about it.
