I don't know where to start, but buying pull-ups for nighttime is getting old! (aka expensive) He'll be 4 at the end of October; I think wearing a pull-up needs to be phased out, but maybe I'm wrong... Any tips?

Other than cutting drinks off at a certain time, I don't know what you could do.

It is expensive, I know.

one step ahead has nihtime training pants
One Step Ahead Baby - Dri Nights Bedwetter Pants
I used similar ones for my girls. sometimes night training is harder since some kids can even be older till they stop for lots of reasons. good luck
these do cost a bunch but in the long run are a lot cheaper.
just a thought.
I know the diapers and training pants are soo costly man I looked at picking up a pack of newborn diapers and went into sticker shock.

dd actually started potty training by being dry at night

I however did not want to clean up pee, so I held off and had her wear pull ups for awhile. when I was ready for her to take the pull up off... what I did do was put one of those big blue pads, I got them from a pharmacy they are like 2X2 and put under her matress pad, just in case.

I only have girls and have heard that potty training in general is ALOT harder with boys. However, here is what I did....hope it helps.

Just recently I stopped putting a pull-up on my dd who is now 4. Nothing to drink past 6:30 (only sips of water) She goes to bed between 8-8:30 and MUST go potty before she goes to bed. She has had about 4 bed wetting incidents since we started this a couple of months ago but that is to be expected. So I recommmend getting a mattress protector and some extra sheets so if it happens in the middle of the night it is not too distressing!

I just learned ya gotta try it sometime! If he wets the bed every single night-then I would say he is just not ready yet (I did read an article that boys bladders do not "mature" until closer to 8 years old!) Talk to him about it and tell him you are just gonna give it a try and see how it goes.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Have you thought about getting him up to go to the bathroom during the night before you go to bed? We did this with my older son for awhile after phasing out the pull-ups and it seemed to work (he eventually started making it through the night on his own, or getting up himself if he needed to). It hasn't been an issue with my younger son who only did pull-ups at night for a couple weeks (and then at my insistence) but that simply underscores the fact that each child is very, very different. If getting him up at night doesn't work, then I wouldn't stress over the continued use of pull-ups.

Is he potty trained during the day? If so then I really don't get the using pull-u[s at night. I would suggest buying a few pair of those padded underwear (I think they still make them) and putting them on him at night. This way if he starts to go, the extra padding will contain much of the fluid yet he will still feel wet and get up. You should also have a plastic matress cover under his sheet. Don't worry if he isn't dry when he wakes up now. My son wasn't either. Turns out, he would actually wake up dry and then pee in his diaper upon waking. Once we took the diaper off, he went to the bathroom to go.

He is potty trained during the day. Half the time, he'll wake up and first thing say he needs to pee, but his pull up is already wet, so he peed in the middle of the night. I can't remember the last time his pull up was dry in the morning.

I thought about having him do a quick potty break right before DH and I go to bed. We usually go to sleep around midnight or so, he goes down at 8pm. So it would be 4 hours in, then he'd have about 6 to go until he woke up. I guess trial and error wouldn't hurt! I would need to get another sheet or two for his bed for nighttime accidents. Oh, and bananabellesmom - thanks for the tip on the pad! You'd think as a past CNA I'd think of that..
