I watch a pre-schooler (4) who is special needs for speech and also a "smallfry" he gets picked up on a van/bus.This morning was the first day of going back. His bus comes with no car seat set up for him, I told the driver he needed a seat she had one so she set him up in it. She just dropped him off with him sitting with a regular seat belt NO car seat When I asked why she said HER boss said he is 4 yrs old and no way could possibly need a seat WTH! I brought him in and weighed him on my scale he is 30.6 with shoes and a diaper. I just called his mother to give that boss a call. Can you believe that I mean this is a bus company that transports children all around the city They are leased out for the city as our city has no regular bussing except for the special need children!

Oh gosh...I hope they talk to the driver. In OH, you have to be 4 years old AND 40lbs. So smaller kids may have to be a in seat a little past 4 years old until they meet the weight requirement.

This site has a list of the requirements for all the states:

Child Passenger Safety Laws

Right and you would think a Van/bus company would know these rules

You'd think! There are a lot of people that don't know/don't care about it...it's unfortunate that this driver is one of those people. I hope the mother can get it worked out so that her son is transported in the most safe way.

I don't think all the rules apply to school buses. I mean some states have a younger than 8 rule in a car seat. That just can't work with school buses.

I think you are right. I am pretty sure our state law is "8 years old or 80 lbs." but doesn't apply to buses. Not that I think that is the way it should be...

I would call the company and let them know the laws see what they say about them and if they are serious and taking action leave it alone till next time and see that it is taken care of .. If not I would report it. I don't know as a bus they may operate under a diffrent law code.
