DS had several pairs of character shoes when he was 3-4 and at first he outgrew them before they fell apart but the last three pairs he had started to fall apart after only a month - he still wore them but they didn't look very good. I bought them thinking he was going to outgrown them and stayed in the same size for 1.5 years LOL and they were also fairly cheap. He now has some non-character ones that I really hope he doesn't outgrow - they were much more expensive but are much better quality as well. I am really hoping that he can wear these for about 6 months before he outgrows them or they fall apart.

I don't buy the character tennis shoes either, my ds has chubby feet, so we usually go to Stride Rite for him, and my girls usually want Nike's or Adidas.

His crocs have character Jibbitz though!

I don't like character anything. I will not buy character "outfits" but I do buy t-shirts if they ask for them. I bought a pair of Dora tennis shoes from Dollar General for $10.00 last year for my 3, now 4 year old, and she is still wearing them. I got her a new pair for school this year, also Dora, from K-Mart. She wears the old ones for play. 5 year old wanted some god awful looking Hannah Montana shoes. They were purple and black. Thankfully they didn't have her size and she was happy to find a plain pair.

Nope...we don't do "character" anything. I just think it's "yucky" looking - I don't understand the appeal. Thankfully my kids have never wanted that stuff.

Well, in the past character shoes were never name brand, so I suppose that is why most people don't like them. I just think they are ugly.
I don't get name brand for elementary school, so if they really wanted the character shoes, I got them. They usually didn't.
I have seen a new comercial for Monster Feet shoes that are by some brand name. I think maybe Reebok? Not sure.

I don't like character anything for clothes. When we were shoe shopping this time, Bob picked out Thomas shoes and because I'm a pushover I let him get them. I did find a pair of Vans at a garage sale this summer for him to wear when Thomas shoes aren't appropriate.

The reason I don't like character clothing is because I find they are usually more expensive and I prefer a more "classic" look for the boys' clothes.

If it was a good brand, I would consider it for play shoes.
well this is my other thing about them the support both my boys have flat no arch feet and the foot dr told us to buy good suport shoes so when they were younger we did stride rite and now that they are older they wear new balance reebok those kinds of shoes. but i also just don't like the character thing.
