Hi All!!

My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and is still hanging on to her bottle. I know that she needs to be transitioning into sippy cups, but find that, when I have tried in the past, It is going to be a fight!! I also think that it is partly an issue in me - you know, she is my last one, and even me, holding on to those last "baby" moments!!

Any advice? Should I just brace myself and press forward, realizing that there will be a fight?

Throw them in the trash and don't get them out.

My dd drinks juice/water from the sippy cup but no milk. She is 34 months old. She would only drink milk from her bottle and is still holding strong.

Skimommy I was just thinking about you and your dd the other day and wondering if she ever started drinking milk again. Amazing! My ds still will only drink his milk out of a Nuby cup - everything else he drinks out of real glasses and has for a long time. He just turned 3. One of these days I am going to have to throw them out but he refuses to drink milk out of anything else. I try every month or so and I always get the same response. He also still sleeps with his paci and I know I need to get rid of that too, but it is just so hard to think of taking away something that is so comforting to him. Maybe in a few months....

I say forget a sippy cup and go right to a kid sized regular cup.

I feel ya here. I had the nuby cups until my son bit the top of both of them. He can drink out of a normal cup and a cheap plastic cup with a sippy top (he doesn't drink alot out of it) but I worry about his fluid intake.

We had a little goodbye party for the bottles when DS was younger. I slowly threw them away 1 by 1. Then, I was able to say, No, they are all dirty and in the dishwasher (you have to get rid of them, though, because he'll probably check).

At the little party, we had cake and ice cream and helium balloons. We also gifted a nice present (bribe) and another present of 2 new sippy cups with his favorite characters. We then tied the bottles onto the balloons (we were down to either 2 or 3 by then) and went outside to let them go. He did the honors. Making it a happy goodbye for a growing-up little boy who was so good made it easier, as he was involved in it and was the one to release it. He was very proud of himself. I did warm up the milk for awhile in his sippy cup until one day I gave him a regular cup of cold milk. Then he decided he always wanted cold milk.

I agree with not going to a sippy cup, those are just as hard to break

does she drink out of a straw? maybe get some pretty straws for her big girl cup

Conceptually this is a good idea. However, my 5.5 year old is still spilling over her cups. She just doesn't pay attention. I give her cups with a lid and straw.

This isn't about me but I tried straws for Lydia and she hold the cup upside down

The paci fairy left a gift for Lilly. We put the paci in the window and she brought a present to exchange for it the next day. It will be hard the first few nights but then they forget about it. Lilly's lips still did the motion for awhile when she went to bed. If the fairy takes it then it is out of your control!

I was going to suggest the same thing. There can be hang ups with sippy cups too. (as seen in the other thread about sippy cups!!) To make it fun you can go to a dollar tree or dollar store of any kind and get those curlly straws which make it that much more fun!
