Because toddlers drink out of sippy cups, too much juice can wreck havoc on their teeth.

It's not that I think juice is evil, there are benefits to 100% fruit juice.
However, since ds is only 2, I want to encourage an acceptance of water. If he is feeling thirsty, I want him to drink water instead of ask for juice, it's just a good habit to have. I leave a SIGG sports bottle out with water in it all day and he can go drink as needed. He has years ahead of him to drink juice after he has already formed a good water drinking habit.
I feel the same way about milk too, I don't want him reaching for the milk cup every time he's thirsty. Milk is for meals and water is for thirst.
I'm also going by our doctor's recommendations. She said that since he eats fruit every day, a few times a day, then we don't need to supplement with juice. I would probably feel differently if he was not a milk drinker, I would be giving him calcium fortified juice daily (like Dynamo juice from Trader Joe's).

My 35 month old will ONLY drink apple juice. I have managed to water it down 50/50. She drinks it all day so if I don't, she will have diarrhea. She stopped drinking milk when I took her bottle away at 2 1/2. She STILL won't drink milk out of anything else.
I give my 5 yr old a serving or two of juice per day. She gets grape juice first for the antioxidants and apple juice if she asks for it. She is an excellent milk drinker and also drinks decaffeinated tea or water.

dd gets one juice pack at school for snack and one glass at home, not watered down.
I agree that offering water is best,if they will drink it, because it needs to be offered too.
I don't ever remember having juice as a kid

When my dd was a toddler, I gave her one small sippy cup of Juicy Juice every day.

i water it down to save money and sugar. I only give it to her because she eats so much dairy she gets constipated. She is fine with plain water.

I don't. Honestly, I don't see the point of juice. They eat fresh fruits everyday and they don't need the extra sugar. Plus, on the frugal side-water is a lot cheaper obviously it's free.
They have had juice occasionally-normally at bday parties, etc, but I don't buy it for in our house.

DS loves water, and since he also gets at least two servings of fruit every day, I don't bother trying to squeeze it into my regular grocery budget. But occasionally I'll buy some frozen OJ concentrate or something, and I'll let him have a cup here and there. Or he gets some juice during church while he's in the nursery. As long as it's 100% juice, I'm ok with it, but I don't go out of my way to make sure he has some.

my oldest does not drink anything but milk at the three meals and water the rest of the time.(he does not like juice and tends to have weight issues so its empty calories)
middle ds usually has one glass of 100% juice a day.
dd usually has a couple glasses a week she is really into ice in her water right now.
