I was told overnight wetting was more a physically developemental thing. nothing you can do until his body has grown more. nothing to do with age or being potty trained. my oldest was dry overnight at the age of 15 months with very few wet diapers in the morning and she slept late. she went to sleep with a sippy cup by her crib that she could reach. she was not potty trained and I was not trying at that age either.
just make sure your ds doesn't take it as failure.

Christy, I don't think you'd EVER be THAT mother. You are too intune with your children.
My dd will be 3 in December and has been potty trained since the end of February. She is day time and nap time trained so I never worry about putting anything on her except for night when it's bed time. I put a pull up on her at night when I put her pj's on and it's time to go to bed. I always have her go potty one last time before she actually goes into her bed. I'm lucky 99.9% of the time she is dry. (and I don't limit fluids at all for her) There are those off nights where she will wake up with a wet pull up. I don't make a big deal about it but she will say "mommy - is my pull up heavy?" when I take it off her when she goes pee in the morning. I'll tell her "yes, but it's ok, you were just too tired to wake up and go potty" She is so excited every morning when she is dry. She'll say "mommy I didn't go potty, my pull up is dry!" I always tell her "good for you, I'm proud of you!" (because she is so excited) I would just let it go. My doctor said kids can be day/nap trained but need a diaper or pull up until easily age 6. Just depends on the kid and how deep/hard they sleep. I could probably have dd go without the pull up but that .1% of the time I don't want to have to change her, her sheets, etc. I'd rather use the pull up as my "safety net"
Zach will figure it out in time. You mention he is in such a deep sleep you feel guilty taking him to the bathroom. That right there tells me he is a DEEP sleeper and probably isn't waking up when he feels the need to go. I'm sure in time he'll be able to wake up or hold it longer, it will just take some time.

We're in the exact same boat with Riley and he's 4. I was going to post the same thing. Apparently all we can do is wait.....

Thank you all ladies for sharing your stories and offering support. It's frustrating having to wash the sheets every morning, if not every other morning but hopefully next year when he's four, he will be able to start making new connections!
You're all awesome!

Christy: Have you tried the saddle sheet? I think I got mine at BabiesRUs. It saddles the bed and covers the part most likely to get wet. It has a plastic backing. So if he wets, you just wash the pjs, the saddle sheet, and any top sheet or blanket. Saves having to wash the mattress pad, etc.
Little diva sleeps with me, so I put the Ultimate Crib Sheet under my fitted sheet, so if her diaper leaks, I can just do a quick sheet change, leaving the mattress pad dry. Saves some hassle. Perhaps, too, going up a size on the Overnights will help hold more liquid to prevent soak-through.

Yes we do have one on the mattress. He's had that ever since he transitioned to the Big Boy Bed. It's just annoying having to wash it and the sheets almost every other day!
We understand why it's happenning I just wish there was something more we can do. Oh well.
Thank you all for your input!

We actually have a vinyl mattress cover that actually zips around the entire mattress. It make a crinkly sound, of course, but at least I only have to wash whatever sheets and blankets get wet, not a mattress pad too. (a little vinegar water and a paper towel suffices to wipe it down...) I think we got ours at Target or Wal-mart. Dh found it, and it wasn't very expensive either. That might at least save you a little laundry. Thankfully, Elise isn't having too many nighttime accidents anymore. It seems to go in spurts though......

I know it's frustrating. I'm going thru the same thing but with a little twist...my son poops at night, too. We've done everything to get him to go during the day...plenty of water, prune juice, raisins, no bananas, no peanut butter, no apple juice. Sometimes he'll go 2 days without pooping. So I just know he'll go during the day...but nope....he waits until he's asleep. I have tried to figure out when he goes and then I'll get him up and he sits and sits on the potty and finally lets something out. But it wasn't worth disturbing my sleep and his.
I don't even put sheets on his bed anymore. I have converted his crib to a toddler bed so he still has the water proof mattress. So I just line the mattress with a very thick quilt and blanket and he lays on top of that with his other covers on top. That way, in the morning, I just pull off the quilt and blanket and then wash.
The poop smells up the whole house. So I'm always having to air his room out. As a matter of fact, I smell his latest "accident" right now -
But now I'm trying not to put pressure on him and I'm not limiting his foods (because he really loves bananas and I don't think 1 banana a day will make it any worse). He's always so happy that he doesn't wet during his nap and so we celebrate that and maybe the night time thing will work itself out.
So hang in there...

Boy oh boy can I relate to all of you...my 2 younger ones still have accidents at night. My DD is 5 and my DS is 8, however we go in spurts. DD is not so much...if by chance she manages to sneek a juice box after her cut off time or fall asleep on the couch and not going to the bathroom before bedtime...I can almost guarentee she will wake up wet...but that may happen maybe twice a month. DS can go 2 weeks or more with no accidents and then whammo...We'll go weeks in a row washing sheets and blankets. A lot of times too...he does it right before he gets up or as he's getting up in the morning.
Our ped. says a lot of the problem is heriditary...my brother was near his early teens when he stopped and my mother-in-law was around 9 when she did. It's just a waiting game basically...and keeping our fingers crossed that it will end soon!

I haven't read the other posts so I can only give my own expereince. Joe just turned 6 and continues to wear a pull-up every night. There maybe two days a month wehre he will have a dry pull-up in the AM. We've done the ususal limiting the liquid intake and waking him up in the middle of the night. Nothing works. At his recent 6 year check-up I spoke with the pediatrician about it. He says that some kids are just heavy sleepers and that they will fix the problem on thier own when it starts to affect him for instance, if he will be invited to a sleepover at a boys house. Now he's only in kindergarten so that might not happen for a few years. The Dr. says that this is a problem they grow out of but not until they are ready to.
