My son is great about staying dry and pee peeing on the potty. He wears big boy underware all the time. Pooping on the potty is a whole other story. He will only go in a diaper and will hold it till is hurts and he is constipated (sp). Right now, I give in and give him a diaper as I don't want to go to the ER for him hurting. I have tried candy, toys, charts and I just don't know where to go from here. He thinks poop goes in diapers and pee pee goes down the potty. We have even flushed the poop from his diaper down before and we have had him sit on the potty when he askes for a diaper so he can try to go. Nothing is working... Any advice will be helpful. He is 3 1/2. Thanks in advance....Tonia

This is normal. This is something I've heard many times, and my own son went through it. For some reason, they are so afraid of #2 going down the toilet as they feel it's part of them. Yet, they have no problem dumping the diaper down it. Go figure. My suggestion is to just back off for now. Rather than telling him, ask him if he's ready. There will come a day, I promise, when he will be.
