Has anyone else dealt with this?

My DD-NOW 5 months old is a happy spitter/vomiter. She started spitting the day of discharge but since it doesn't affect her there is no problem..

She doesn't spit, she vomits ALOT.

Short story-Started at day of discharge continued daily till she was 2 months old and now at 5 months it has started again-JUST ONCE, BUT more than the other times..

-It's scary-She sounded like she was drowning-(she was laying down)-

My 5 month old is one. She "spits" up (more like project ruin mom's shirts)more than my 3 other kids combined. She's never stopped though, she's done it every day almost after every feeding since she was born. We haven't had any problems and she is very happy and growing well. She's never done it while sleeping though, that would be very scary, they could choke on it! Sorry, I have no advice, just wanted you to know I feel for you!

She wasn't sleeping, She was on the floor while I was turning pancakes...-IT was scary though. I should mention she is also gaining weight as expected. Doubled her birth weight at 3months old.

that is good that she is gaining weight! does she have acid reflux?

I am assuming that she is rolling over now, but maybe to ease your mind if she is not, you could elevate her crib at the head a bit so she is not laying flat...just a thought

I never had pukers, LOL I am grateful

My daughter spit up like crazy, and it lasted until she was about 10 months (most babies grow out of it by 6 months). I don't know that she "vomited" that often, but it sure felt like she was spitting up everything I had fed her. I just got used to Always having a burpcloth around.

DS was a professional projectile spitter/vomiter. He had Gerd and was on meds but still would do it. Elevate her head in the crib by using a wedge under the mattress. It gives about a 10 degree incline to help. I also did the massage for gerd. You spell I love you on her tummy in a certain way ( really helps the vomiting). I sure if you google it, there is a video to show you how.

Awe, its very scary! Does she have acid reflex? Thats why we were giving my DS the rice in his bottle and then the dr gave him some meds for it and he grew out of it.

Like autismmom said, maybe try to prop her up. We stuck pillows under the bassinet matress because I am a freaker LOL Then it comes to find out, that this kid wont sleep on his back for anything...LOL hes been a belly sleeper since day 1.

I hope everything clears up soon!

Both my older boys were happy spitters. They ate fine, grew fine, and were happy - they just spit up A LOT. And they did do it while sleeping. I asked my pediatrician about it when my oldest was still a newborn and he said that the chances of them aspirating anything are very slim (I had asked if it would be safer for him to sleep on his tummy so he wouldn't choke on it). Anyway, it lasted 9 months to a year with the oldest and more than a year with my middle son. Thankfully my youngest spits up very infrequently.

Neither of my boys had GERD and, in fact, everything I've heard about it indicates that infants with GERD typically have pain and so would not be "happy spitters."

She doesn't vomit at night anymore-so no worries there. But because she is a happy spitter-they say she doesn't have reflux.

This is what I have been told also. By three pediatricians as long as she is a happy spitter and gaining weight she doesn't have reflux.

I guess I really just needed to know that others have had a happy spitter/vomitter.
