What do you think about having babies ears pierced? Does your baby have her ears pierced? Was it an issue between you and your hasband? Is it a cultural issue passed on in your family?

I didn't realize it seemed to be an issue until I was reading on another website about it. So I was wondering how people here feel about it.

We are thinking about and prob. will have our daughters ears pierced as sson as we get together and were there are two people to do it at the same time. I wanted to originally and he didn't but I told him I ws going to (just like he doesn't want her hair cut - we will see). Now he is fine with it, but I wonder if it will interfere with her nursing since she lays her head on my arm and I think it would smush her ear. So now I am ify. But I really think it is cute and if she decides she doesn't want them we can take them out at that time. THis way I can take care of them better too, since she won't be messing with them.
What is your opinion/ feelings?

I wanted to get DD's done when she was young 1 or under. Dh didn't agree so we agreed to wait till she asked. (age didn't matter she had to ask with out be promted) Like I would ever do that.
One day I was putting earrings in and dh was sitting on the bed with dd and she said she wanted them just like mommy we asked what and she said earrings. she was 28 months. So she asked I explained that it would hurt we went where 2 gals would do it at the same time.. She cried for all of 30 seconds and she has been fine with them ever since.

Had my DD's pierced when she was 8 months old. She cried for about 2 seconds. DH still isn't crazy about her having them, she's 4 now and doesn't like to wear them too often. But when there's a special event like a wedding to go to she loves to wear them.

My aunt pierced mine when I was 7 days old and I've never had a problem with them.

I got all my daughter's (I have 5 daughters) ears pierced when they were just a few months old. My reasoning for doing it very young is they were too young to notice they had them in, and they could heal without being bothered. By the time they're old enough to notice they had them they didn't seem to care they were there and didn't mess with them.

We had all of them done with two people piercing at same time.. some of the girls didn't cry at all, the others cried for half a second. My 5 yr olds' right ear was pierced wrong, it's too low, we'll have to get it re-pierced one day but I'm going to wait till she's old enough to deal with cleaning it herself.

I would not have any optional cosmetic changes made to a child's body unless the child wanted them.
When M'ija was about 4, she saw me putting in earrings and wanted to wear them. I told her that to wear my earrings, you had to have holes in your ears, and showed her mine (all three sets). She said she wanted holes in her ears, then thought about it a minute and asked if it hurt. I told her that it hurt a little and asked her if she would like me to show her how much it hurt. She said yes and I gave her earlobe a short, sharp pinch. She yelped, rubbed her ear for a second, than asked if that was all. I said it was and she said she wanted to do it.
When she was about 9, she got her second set of holes, and her third when she was 14.

No way for us!!! earrings in babies scare me. I am afraid it could snag on a blanket or come off and be swallowed. My girls were around 6 before we let them have pierced ears.

We did DD's when she was 2 months old. That's the earliest they would do it because she had to have her first round of shots. I'm glad I did them young and she loves them.

We're waiting at least until she asks. My husband is hoping it will fall out of style and she won't want pierced ears.
