2 wk old will only sleep

He sleeps great.. but only if I am holding him or if he is sleeping beside me in the bed.... i assume this is a bad habit.. but i cant bear to hear him cry.. we never had this prob with Hannah she wanted to be alone in her bed.. But with Mason I put him down sound asleep wrapped up and five min later he is crying....
any tips?

If you can hold him, don't mind holding him, etc, don't worry. *He is only 2 weeks old. *He will get there eventually..and you will feel better working on it when he is a bit bigger, too. If you are needing a break, try the swing (do you have one?). Even if he doesn't like it at first, keep trying. Bundle him good in it, and since he is so tiny, you can even sit him on his side in it. The car seat works, too, if he'll sleep in it. Do you have a baby carrier? I used it a lot with my fourth child. He was my fussier one on sleeping. Also, and I may get flamed for this, but consider warming his bed with a heating pad first. Just make sure to pull it out before putting him down. That worked wonders for us. The warmth made him feel like he was still being held!

you are amazing im going to try some of this in a few weeks hes so teeny now ill just hold him

but thank you for the tips some things im going to try

If you don't have a heating pad, warm a towel in the dryer, or fill a sock with rice, tie the top shut with a rubberband and warm that.

Also, babies are "startled" if you just put them dowm, keep him close to your chest and bend over the crib to put him down.

He's so little right now and just went through the trauma of birth not so long ago, so don't worry too much. Though I know you need a break. My 8 month old dd was like this when she was little, I had to wrap her really tight and hold her then put her in the cradle with a wedge which cuddled her. But I have heared that if you sleep with one of the blankets for a couple of nights and then swaddle the baby in it, they will sleep better since they can smell you.

we used rolled warm towels from the dryer so our colicky son felt warm and surrounded we just rolled to and put them snuggley up next to him... and who ever said try to hold him to your chest as you put down is right that really helps it does not startle them so much... he young he will get the hang of it...enjoy him!!

I went through exactly what you are describing with my youngest. After a few weeks, she grew out of it. I figure that she was a tummy baby. We put her to sleep on her back and she did not feel secure. As soon as she was old enough to turn over herself, she always slept on her tummy. Hang in there. I know it is rough, but she will grow out of it.

A baby sling can be really helpful. The baby will feel secure and sleep in the sling, and you can go about your normal routine, hands free.
