We have/are. DH works in the medical field, and he is SUPER concerned about DD contracting this.

DD has just gotten so that she will stay in the childcare center at the gym, but I am thinking that is just a breeding ground for this mess, and I would be asking for trouble taking her there.

I have been leaving her at home when I go to the grocery too.

So far, we have continued to take her to the baby/toddler program at church. She is still going to the park with me to walk the trails also.

No changes here. My DS (6) and DD (13.5 months) have both gotten sick with Influenza A (with a 97% chance of being H1N1). They are both fine and healthy now.

I bet you are actually kind of relieved. Less to worry about, ya' know.

Relieved in a way but still the same as before we got sick. I knew there was a BIG chance we would get it because my DS is in school.

Both our son and I have actually (unknowlingly at the time) been exposed to H1N1 already...and nothing happened. So we haven't really changed much...just washing our hands alot more and using those antiseptic (sp?) wipes when we go grocery shopping. But we don't go around sick people either. I'm actually a little confused as to why it's such a big deal...people die from the flu every year...why is this any different?

Like anything else, this is debatable. I am a little more proactive because of statements/statistics like this:

"Each year approximately 36,000 Americans die of regular flu, according to the CDC. The White House estimates that a minimum of 30,000, and as many as 90,000, Americans could die of H1N1 this year. The impact is unknown but estimates indicate H1N1 (swine) could be deadlier.

When it comes to hospital stays, the CDC reports that each year 200,000 Americans need to be admitted because of regular flu. The government estimates on H1N1 put the number of hospitalizations as high as 1.8 million. That is nine times greater than the regular flu.

And while 90% of regular flu deaths occur in people over age 65, the H1N1 strain targets people under the age of 65. People under the age of 25 have proven to be especially vulnerable to H1N1."

I think H1N1 vaccine has been in every one's ears/eyes for so long is because there are a lot of people that get the regular flu vaccine (which doesn't cover h1n1 this year) and that means a higher risk of h1n1 virus staying/passing more. (more sickness).

JUST MY OPINION.

We are just going through the regular flu here at home. DH brought dss over for his weekend and he was sick. Of course now everyone here has it.
I am making a more conscious effort to make sure the kids in their classes at the gym don't act sick. I am also making a bigger effort to use more hand sanitizer and to make sure the older kids wash their hands more often.

I agree that it is definetly a worse type of flu. But that could also be because we haven't been exposed to it over the years...unlike the regular flu. From what I've read (which I admit wasn't much) it seems like majority of the deaths have to do with respitory problems...due to people having ashma and such when catching the h1n1 (leading to much worse breathing problems). I'd think it could also have to do with so many people not able to afford to have healthcare and having to work...despite the fact that they should stay home to not spread the virus. A bad financial year(s)...can create more medical problems. But that's just my opinion.
