I think it is a personal decision for the parents to make. We decided to have Jacob circumcised since DH is. They did it when he was 1.5 days old, with anesthesia and the care of it was very simple. Jacob was not in pain and down the road we don't have to answer why his privates look different than daddys. That being said, it is a personal decision and ours was to have our son circumcised.

Definitely will have any future sons circumcised. I do think it is a personal choice. I was in college when a professor told us about how she had her son circumcised (18 years ago) and how she was crying when they did it because you could tell he was in so much pain and how they do the 'operation' is just so horrible...even when she would change his diaper, just a little flick of the diaper against him, he would turn bright red and start screaming and that pain will stay with him forever. I saw someone on here posted about how bad circumcising a baby is and how horrible the procedure is along with being painful....

I'm sure it is painful for the baby, but do they remember it? Just ask your husbands, if they are circumcised, if they remember the procedure and I bet they won't. I asked my husband and he laughed and said no, it must not have been that painful and horrible as everyone says because he doesn't remember it. So, I'm sorry but everyone who says it is so horrible and painful for the baby (which I am sure it is at the time) please just stop...they are not going to be traumatized by the procedure for the rest of their lives.

Then would it be okay to remove a newborn girl's clitoris as long as she didn't remember it?

This is a personal choice.

For religious reasonings we choose to have our son circumsized.

Your sig says you're Christian - Christianity doesn't require circumcision. Judaism does.

To be honest, I've never understood how anyone could worship a god who required that they remove a piece of their child's genitals as proof of their love for the god - but maybe that's just me.

That one's beyond me, too Phoenyx!

I do get the "they won't remember it" mindset, but everyone is so worried about every other little possible thing that might happen to their child - worried about vaccines, etc., but willing to do this? Doesn't make sense.

I guess I'm not sure why everyone thinks it's so painful or that they don't numb the area. My son woke up briefly when they gave him the anesthetic but slept through the actual process. He had no visible redness or obvious pain afterward.

They used anesthetic on my son as well. I had to ask for it,but the doctor did give him some.

This is a personal decision, and I respect beliefs from both sides. I chose to circumcise because my ex-husband was. Also, my brother got a painful infection when he was 11 or 12 and said he'd wished he was circumscribed as a newborn.
