We did because we felt that it was the right thing for our family. I think that is such a personal decision. One of the reasons that we did it was because I have kidney issues and am prone to UTI's. I talked with my urologist about it and we decided that since sometimes uncircumsised men are more prone to UTI's that we would do it because of my history. We think that my problems are hereditary so we wanted to do as much as we could to help out in that situation.

I think it's just a personal choice.

We thought long and hard about it and did some research on it, and decided to go ahead and circumcise. Definitely a personal choice.

To have healthy, functional tissue surgically removed from my newborn's privates without anesthesia or not? NOT.
I didn't know M'ija's sex until she was born. I made it clear when I went into the hospital to deliver, that if it was a boy, there would be NO circumcision, and made sure that they wrote it into my chart.
The foreskin serves a similar purpose for the head of the penis as the eyelid does for the eyeball - lubrication, protection. Would you remove your child's eyelids if the cultural aesthetic preferrred it?
You have to teach your child to wash his hair, his armpits, behind his ears, and his butt crack. Is it so hard to teach him to pull back his foreskin and sluice a bit of water over his glans?

We chose not to...since we didn't feel there was any reason to. But I agree with it being totally up to the parents.

A video produced by the nocirc organisation:
YouTube - Circumcision - Just say NO! Part 1

Care is a lot easier with intact, non-circumcised boys as there is nothing to do. The foreskin is unretractable in infancy so it should be left alone. No cleaning under it or pulling it back is required. Doctors who know about the foreskin advise to leave it alone:
Foreskin care | Kidshealth

Circumcised boys require a lot more care.
Circumcised boys are in discomfort because there is an open wound. This wound can easily become infected. It can also become irritated by ammonia in the urine.
The remaining skin after the foreskin is severed can re-attach to form a skin bridge. Basically it is a whole lot of extra hassle (that usually nobody tells you about). This site shows in graphic detail the terrible consequences that can occur:
Circumcision Complications

There is also likely to be negative psychological effects to circumcision:
Psychological Impact of Circumcision

Circumcision removes a functioning part of the penis. Many circumcised men do not know what they have lost:

The foreskin contains many specialized nerves on it's underside. When the foreskin is moved up and down it is very pleasurable. Circumcised men have lost this ability to masturbate easily as there is no gliding effect. Circumcised men often have to resort to artificial lubrication in masturbation and sex. See here for the function of the foreskin (NSFW - contains pic of penis):
Functions and Mobility of Real Foreskin

Without the foreskin protecting the glans, circumcised men lose further sensitivity. The glans (head of the penis) dries out. It also brushes on underwear causing the skin to toughen. See here for the full damage done (NSFW - contains pic of penis):
How to Identify Circumcision Damage in the Adult Male

There are good reasons to believe that sex is better for the woman as well, if the man has his foreskin intact (NSFW - contains pic of penis):
Purpose of the Foreskin Explained in Pictures, Video & Text

Men in Britain, Ireland, France, Germany and Italy, along with the rest of Europe don't get circumcised and they all do as good if not better than countries where circumcision is more common. So all in all it is best to be as nature intended. No medical association actually recommends non-therapeutic infant circumcision:
Circumcision: A Guide for expectant Parents | Circinfo.org

History: Non-religious circumcision only started in English-speaking countries in the late 1800's. The main reason was to prevent masturbation. More info can be found at this at this site:
History of Circumcision

Rates of circumcision:
Circumcision rates have dropped in the USA to 60%.
Circumcision in the USA
In Canada and Australia the rate has dropped to less than 10%. In Britain the rate is less than 1%. Only 20-25% of the world are circumcised, 2/3 of these are Muslim.

Once it is gone it is gone, so it is wrong to make that decision for someone without their consent.

I didn't want to do it at all. I wanted all natural childbirth (which I successfully had). My husband wasn't circumsized, and he said he had some kind of injury, and he wanted his son to avoid that. The hospital did it when he was one day old. I was crying when (they took him out of the room). When he came back he was sleeping, and never seemed to have any side effects. He is now nine. I do remember I kept trying to put vaseline on it, and some gauze, but it would slide off everytime. I don't think sex is any different for the woman if the man is circ. or not.

I've had both circumcised and intact lovers, and there is most definitely a difference.
