anyone ever done this?

I am thinking of signing up for it. From what I understand you have to have a scheduled c section.

The placenta then goes to eye treatment... up to 50 patients can be helped.

If I could donate 'parts' to help others that weren't going to be needed by me, I'd do so in a heartbeat.

I understand in some cases there are medical risks to donation while alive; however, if you're already taking those medical risks for your own sake, what harm could there be in donating a 'side effect' basically. Go for it and feel glad to be a 'hero' is my opinion!

I'm having a scheldualed c-section....so this is pretty interesting. Is it like cord blood banking? You know where you have to pay for it? Or do you just sign it away? Are there any risks or anything? And why don't they ask us if we'd like to donate it at the hospital? It's for such a wonderful cause.

we donated our cord blood which was pretty easy at no cost just a little hassle for the hospital because they had to take so much blood from me.to test i guess.
Talk to your dr because they are the ones who have to watch and take care of everything.

nothing special to do on my part, except a 15 min phone health history. And I talked with my OB and nothing different or harder for them to do! so it's a go for me, neat to help other people!
