How much should a 4 week old weigh? I know every baby is different but just curious...how much did your 4 week old weigh- and what did they weigh at birth? The reason i ask is Kamryn saw her ped yesterday and he was showing a bit of concern. She was born 8lbs 8oz...she left the hospital weighing 8lbs 4oz...and at her 4 week appt she weighed 11lbs. He suggested that i try and feed her a little less? i recommended he come to my house and feed her only 3oz and he can listen to her scream. He said it isn't typical for a baby to gain like 3 lbs in a month especially when they throw up as much as she has....Shes eating 4 or 5 oz every 3 hrs...is this to much? SO confused....

At 4 weeks my boys weighed 10 pounds (6 pounds 14 ounces at birth) and 11 pounds (7 pounds 1 ounce at birgh) respectively. My pediatrician wasn't the least bit concerned about their weight gain - in fact he said they were doing great and I had great breastmilk.

I don't know how much different the weight charts are for girls, but I can't imagine that they are that different at 4 weeks. In my opinion, you have nothing to worry about (except maybe to look into a different pediatrician?)

How was her length compared to her weight? Did they tell you what percentile she was in for her height and weight compared to other babies her age?

Oh and by the way, both of mine spit up all the time too. And as far as I know, it isn't unusual for a newborn to gain a pound a WEEK when they're that age (both mine did).

try just the 40z every 3 to 4 hours. neither of my kids at that much at that age but hey everykids different in a few weeks your baby may not want as much either they go in spurts. i would not worry about it to much see what they say next time. as long as overall they are healthy who cares!!! my brother and his wife started feeding one of thier girls a little less and that helped the spitting up(not that it is your problem you are having just a thought).. good luck try not to worry to much!

My ds had doubled his birth weight by 2 mths. My dd's gained slower. My ds has a throw up/spit up issue like I have heard you describe. I wouldn't worry about it. Babys do not overeat. They do not have food issues. When they are full they stop. That being said they do have the sucking reflex and it soothes them, but if she is crying until she gets the bottle you are doing the right thing. I guess what I am saying is you know YOUR baby better than the dr.

I just find that strange that the ped would be concerned at 4 weeks. Most want to see a little weight on them. I am sure you appreciated the extra pressure too, huh?

Well I have a girlfriend whose baby is 18 pounds and 5 months old. She's chubby(so cute!) but the ped said she was long too so that balanced it out. My ds would eat alot and plump up right before growth spurts. Then, he'd sleep for 3 days (waking only to eat and play for a few mintues) and would be like 1+ inches longer, I swear I am telling the truth!

Babies do their own thing, don't worry! You're doing fine Mom

My fourth baby was a CHUNK. And, now, at 5 1/2 years old, he is as skinny as they come! LOL I don't think I would worry. As long as you aren't shoving it down her throat, and she is going that long between feedings..go with mother's instinct..even if it means changing pediatricians!

I was told they should be back to birth weight at 2 weeks. My 4 weeker was 7 lbs 12 oz at birth and 8lbs 13 at 4 weeks.

Hey there dont worry about what your ped said, i really advise you in finding a new one. My little one was 7lb 13oz when he was born and at 8 weeks and 5 days he weighed 12lb 9oz. My health visitor is really happy with my boys growth and weight gain. my son has reflux so he is really sick after feeds too. this is probably why she takes more milk as well she sick some back up. my son is now 11 weeks old today and has 8oz feeds whenever he is hungry. i dont stick to times to feed him i just wait till he is hungry. its like us we dont eat every 5 hours do we. when were hungry we eat. good luck with everything your little girl sound happy and very healthy keep doing what your doing as u are doing a fab job

Yeah, I think I'd look for a new pediatrician. Babies do vary in their weight gain but 3 pounds in 3-4 weeks is not unusual. Personally, I feed my babies whenever they are hungry and let them eat until they are full. I've never been one to put them on a schedule and to restrict - or force - to only a certain amount. Babies eat when they are hungry and eat until they are full. They don't yet do like we tend to do and eat just to eat.

So don't worry! You're baby sounds like she is healthy, has a healthy appetite and is doing great. You should be proud!

that is crazy that your dr would be concerned at 4 weeks about to much weight gain. my ds gained 2 pounds in the first week we had him home from the hospital, i don't remember how much he was at 4 weeks, but at his 2 month checkup he was up to 13 pounds, and all the nurses and drs in the office just love my chunky little boy, and have said nothing but good things about the way i am feeding him. And he eats 6 ounces every 3 hours, more than he is "supposed to", but thats what makes him happy, and he never spits up, and he sleeps about 12 hours at night. If the DR is making you even more stressed out about having a new baby at home, i would suggest finding a new one. They are there to help you- not make you stress more about stupid stuff.
