I know that they say not to dye your hair when your pregnant. How about professionally done highlights when your breastfeeding?

They dont actually say not to dye while you are pregnant. They do reccomend not to do it in the first three months, but there is no hard evidence that hair dye has any adverse effects on the fetus. that being said, highlighting doesnt actually touch the scalp. (if done with a cap) so it is definitely safe while pregnant, and definitely while breastfeeding. foiling is safe as well.

I've asked, and it's fine. It's also OK to highlight while pregnant, if you can stand the fumes. Of course, I, personally wouldn't want to risk it while pregnant, anyway.

Yep, it's OK. All the professional training I've had as a BF consultant says it's safe. Just don't try to BF the baby while you have chemicals on your head. There's too much of a chance of dripping on baby's precious face.

Yeah, I was planning on leaving the baby at home for that. Thanks! I figured it was fine, but just wanted to ask for some peace of mind.

Thanks!

I did haircolor through all three pg's and bf each for a year - all with colored hair. I have an unreal amount of premature grey - not a few hairs, like almost half of my hair! I couldn't find anything the definately said it was bad. I gave up everything else bad - every single drop of caffeine, artifical sweetner, non-organic foods - you name it.

I know that might make me a bad mother, but so far so good with all of the kids - very smart. I would have been an emotional wreck if I had been forced to go grey and I definately wouldn't have had the second or third babies - I would be too wacked out on major anti-depressants to get pg again. It makes me feel great about myself, which makes me a better mother. I say GO FOR IT!!!

I read this blog this morning before I went to get highlights in my hair. The hairdresser used a cap, but then messed up and smeared the dye on my hair and it got all over my scalp!! I Breastfeed. I'm really nervous now. Am I still safe??

Im really worried about my son.
