Forgive my ignorance. Could you please explain what a HSG is, please? Thanks!

It isn't horrible, but I can't say that it is pleasant. Think of it like a pelvic. The more stressed and nervous that you get (tighten your pelvic muscles) the more pain. Same with an HSG. Afterwards, my day went on like any other - in fact if I remember right, I did mine in the morning and went on to work with NO problems at all.

Hope that helps.

I wasn't sure, either, newlywed. I tried to google it, but can you believe that my parental block is showing this as "advanced sexual information"?!?! What I could determine in reading the blurbs that they did show (without opening sites) is that it is a test on the uterus when there is infertility.

I had one done and let me tell you it was the worst thing I went thru and I had gone thru labor and that didnt touch what that test put me thru. I had my test in the afternoon my mom went with me since they said i might want someone to drive me home. She could hear me crying outside the room and they wouldnt let her come in to hold my hand or anything. I can say if you have a good radiologist it should not hurt that bad. The reason it hurts is cause they put a cone in your cervix and force you to dilate and then force this very thick dye into you. The force of dilation in along with this dye is what causes the pain. I was told afterward oh you shouldhave taken tylenol before you came in that would have helped out alot. I was lucky and able to see my films immediately and knew before my dr did what was going on inside me. I technically should not have 3 kids how I got my miracles is beside me but that is what they are miracles. My tubes were very thin curvy and blocked in some spots so that goes to show you that yes God works his magic in many ways. Good luck my prayers are with you.

I think I had this done. This is the exam where they insert the dye to see how it flows through your reproductive system right? For me it was scarier than painful (it was uncomfortable but no nothing major). I went home and rested for an hour or so then went out to dinner.
You will go in, strip down to NOTHING but a paper thin gown, lay on a table with some equipment on you, watch your Dr & nurses put on huge lead vests and run out of the room to push a button. Mine had a monitor right there so I could see it go through, you can see your intestines also, that was pretty neat. The dye went right through one tube but trickled through the other because it was twisted (or weighted down by one of the fibroids) but my jerk of a Dr didn't think it was a big deal.
Good luck to you, let us know how it goes!

I've never had one, but I'll be thinking about you. I know this has been on your plate for along time now; I hope this brings you some answers.

It's a hysterosalpingogram. I had one too a long time ago. If I remember right, the only complication is that you can get shoulder pain from trapped air (or am I thinking of some other test?). It's not that bad. Good luck!!

I had the dye test done too. We had tried for a year to get pregnant with no luck. This is the first test my dr ordered. It is an xray type test so I do remember them not letting dh in thr room. I had to lay on a hard table with nothing but a hospital gown on. I thought it hurt worse than a pelvic exam. They had the tv screen on and I could see the dye go through my uterus and into my fallopian(sp) tubes. You want to take some tylenol and have some time to rest after. You need to wear a pad after. I had a little bit of blood after. I had my test done early in the morning and rested and then went to work in the afternoon. I was a little crampy all day.
I got pregnant the week after I had this test done. I think it just flushed out my tubes. I had had some, shoot now I forgot what they are called, they are pretty common. They grow each month with your cycle, I think it's Ovarian Cist. I had one rupture in high school. I had a few others after that and they must have just left some debris behind. The dye test helped me get pregnant.
I think everyone should have this test first after a year of trying to get pregnant. I had a friend that was put on all kind of expensive fertility drugs. Then they did the dye test and found out her fallopian tubes were closed off and the fertility drugs were no use.
