I had it with my first pregnancy. Now with my second I'm scared to death because I really don't want to go through another C-section . I'm being careful about eating a lot of sweet. Is it possible that you will get one with your previous pregnancy but not with the next? I asked my doctor this and he told me that the percentage is high to get a gestational diabetes with the next baby.

I was also told that since I had it with my first pregnancy that I would probably get it again. But I did not get it with my second pregnancy! They tested me during every trimester, but I just really watch what I ate, and it turned out fine! Good luck!

I am so clueless about this. My other two pregnancys were pretty much problem free. Then on Monday, I went to the dr and she said i have to go back for the three hour glucose test and a few other things as well. I don't know how it turned out yet, i should hear this afternoon. You have to have a c section if you have it?

Just chiming in since I was a gestational diabetic with all four of my pregnancies and on insulin for the last two. I don't think you will necessarily have it if you were diabetic during previous pregnancies but each time, they tested me a little earlier.

The reason for a c-section is that babies of diabetic mothers are typically much bigger. My last two were born 4 weeks early and weighed 6 lbs, 15 oz and 7 lbs, 5 oz. which is big for 36 weeks. The more controlled your sugars, the less likely it is that you will have a larger baby. I had 3 c-sections but they were not related to my diabetes.

Good luck.

I was boderline with first, but since i have a family history of type 2 I was put on the diet. I was able to control everything with diet and exercise alone. with second I was put on insulin into 6 month and with 3rd I was on insulin from the beginning. It soesn;t mean u will automatically get it. But if u have family history of type 2 it is also another factor. I didn't have c-section with any of mine. My largest was 7lbs 8oz but her weight came from being long. I am now boderline for type 2 but since I have strong family history doc put me on meds. Your risk increases for type 2 if u had gestational. I have done it all so please feel free to pm if u have any Q's.

they automatically test doesn't necessarily mean they think u have it. U should have test with every pregnancy. I think they test at around 25 weeks. also if your reg glucose test was high they will do the test. no u don't automatically have c section.

Well my second set of tests came back good. So we are in the clear. I have huge babies anyway, so that wouldn't have been any good. Both were born a bit before 38 weeks and weighed 8.5lbs

Gestational Diabetes does not mean an automatic C-section.... only a bad doctor would make it a requirement unless an ultrasound showed that the baby had a giant body or head. They do monitor your weight and the baby's approx weight with additional ultrasounds. If they do intervene it is more often than not an induction not a c-section.

I am waiting for the results of my 3 hour test but I don't think I have it. I have only gained around 20 pounds at 7 months and I am actually having a problem gaining weight this time around. I am measuring right, I am not hungry all the time and I am not always running to the bathroom (the only positive of caring a baby high).

I think the requierement in the states from what I hear to have a normal delivery after a C-section is 2 years. Here in Germany it depends on your scar if its healing properly and you don't have a problem. Right now according to my OB I'm a candidate to have a normal delivery that is if I don't get gestational diabetes again. From my past experience I really don't want to go through another C-section. Its not automatic to have another C-section but its all depends on your condition too and if the doctor say its OKAY.

Isn't it dangerous to have more than two C-section? I know I heard from our neighbors that she had 4 C-sections. I'm a little scared even having two.
